The Garmin DriveSmart 70LMT is a navigation GPS that’s easy to use and loaded with essential and premium features. It has a slim modern design and an intuitive interface as well as a nice variety of menus and actions for you to interact with. For its abundance of features, ease of use and excellent functionality.

The DriveSmart 70LMT comes with preloaded maps of the United States, Mexico and Canada, and it has a slot for a microSD card for additional storage for things like maps of other countries. Garmin gives you map updates and traffic alerts for the life of the device, as does the Garmin nuvi 2589LMT, ensuring that you’ll always be using the most up-to-date roads. You’ll receive spoken turn-by-turn directions that use nearby landmarks – such as buildings, traffic lights and other landmarks – so you’re never left wondering if that was the turn you were supposed to make.

It also comes with a variety of safety-conscious features to help keep your hands on the steering wheel and your eyes on the road. Voice-activated navigation lets you plug in a destination saved to your address book, view app alerts, make or receive a phone call or send a text message hands-free. You can even customize your smartphone notifications. It features a speed limit indicator that displays both the speed you’re currently driving along with that of the road you’re driving on. Its built-in lane assistance feature ensures you’re always driving in the appropriate lane, and gives you advanced notice of upcoming turns or lane changes.

Various alerts help keep you aware of school zones, sharp turns, traffic delays and a variety of other traffic-related items. It even has a fatigue warning for anyone making a long trip, reminding you to pull over and take a break or to take advantage of upcoming rest areas.

The GPS navigator has 10 million preloaded points of interest, which include gas stations, restaurants, hotels and other public places. You can also input up to 1,000 of your own favorite locations such as your home, work or friends’ houses. If you’re planning a lengthy road trip and want to visit multiple destinations along the way, the device can handle it. Once you get each destination plugged in – or even if you need to add another one in later – the system automatically creates the most efficient route possible and guides you to each, step-by-step.

This car GPS was an absolute pleasure to use during our testing and, as such, earned the highest rating in our ease of use score. It was easy to set up and get installed in a car, and the intuitive interface didn’t need any instructions or assistance. The large 7-inch capacitive touchscreen, which has a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels, makes it easy to see the route, upcoming turns, nearby points of interest and a myriad of other details. Its interface is extremely intuitive, with clearly labeled icons and options, so you can quickly find whatever you’re looking for.

If you need to use the device but don’t want to deal with its accompanying charging cords, the internal battery lets you run it cord-free for up to about an hour. It also comes stock with a variety of driver alerts to keep you aware of your surroundings while driving. The device is also capable of pairing additional cameras, like the BC 30 Wireless Backup Camera, to help you keep an eye on what’s behind your vehicle, or the babyCam in-vehicle video baby monitor to give you a view of your kids or pets right on the GPS screen.

Whether you’ve got a string of questions or a simple concern, you can easily contact Garmin’s customer service representatives via phone or email. However, there is no live chat option, something that many other companies offer. Despite not having live chat, there are otherwise an abundance of informational resources available on Garmin’s website. The 70LMT ships with a one-year warranty, which is standard for GPS systems.

The Garmin DriveSmart 70LMT has exceptional design, functionality and ease of use. Though it’s one of the most expensive items in our lineup, it easily justifies the price tag because of its wide array of smart features, advanced traffic assistance capabilities and intuitive menus and displays. Its high-definition capacitive touchscreen is easy to view and interact with, and with 10 million built-in points of interest, your daily commute or annual cross-country trip will be a cinch.
