Magix Photostory Easy is the simpler version of Photostory Deluxe. It offers many of the same basic tools but doesn’t include as many graphics, backgrounds and transitions as its counterpart. The interface is also easier to navigate and use, which makes it a great option for beginners or those who don’t need the advanced features of a more expensive program.
In our testing, the program’s slideshow wizard made it easy to add all of the effects and looks we were going for. It walks you through each step of the creation process starting with importing images and music clips from your computer. Magix also provides a library of music clips for you to use, each with a different mood and tempo. We were able to play two audio clips at once – a music track and voice narration – to give our slideshows a unique and sentimental feel. The voice recording tools are easy to use and allow you to make basic edits to your audio.
We counted more than 70 transition effects for switching slides, including some striking 3D options. Photostory Easy also has basic editing tools like the ability to adjust brightness and contrast and to flip, rotate and zoom images. If you’re creating a playful slideshow, you can add bunny ears, balloons, halos and other graphics to any photo. There is even a selection of intros with different themes, including Christmas, curtains and other graphics, to complement your images. When we exported our finished slideshow, the picture quality was excellent as were the transition and animation effects.
You can publish finished photo slideshows to interactive CDs and DVDs with customizable menus. You also can publish your slideshows online on YouTube and Flickr, display or integrate them within a website – like Facebook, and export them to tablets and smartphones. You can export shows in high definition and burn them to Blu-ray discs.
To learn about the software and its various capabilities, you can check the built-in help menu, which you can access directly from the interface. There are ample resources, including video tutorials, which are ideal for visual learners, as well as tips and tricks. You also get links to the community forums on the publisher’s website. Magix also offers email support. However, you have to pay extra to get telephone technical support, which many other software publishers provide at no charge. If you'd prefer to have a program that gives you quick and free support, SmartSHOW 3D Deluxe is a good option.
Other Slideshow Software reviews
Photostory Easy is not as advanced as other software applications, and the lack of free phone support is a drawback for users who like firsthand help. However, you might not need much support since this is a very simple program. The intuitive interface and artistic freedom that this program provides makes it a good choice for inexperienced slideshow creators.
