Pros / Adobe Presenter Video Express guides you through the workflow step by step. Projects take minutes to finish, not hours.

Cons / You cannot capture system sound using this software – you can only record audio through a microphone.

Verdict / The program's biggest selling point is its simplicity. Anyone can use this software to make a high-quality presentation or other video quickly and easily.

Editor's Note: A new version of this software is now available. We will evaluate, rank and review the new version when we next update the video capture software reviews. Meanwhile, enjoy our review of Adobe Presenter Video Express 11 below.

Adobe Presenter Video Express 11 is a quick and easy way to record your computer screen. It also possesses simple video-editing tools to transform your recordings into a professional-level production complete with titles and annotations. However, it can't capture your computer's audio, and you can't edit the audio captured through a microphone.

Despite these shortcomings, it's a decent application with convenient features, multiple capture and editing tools and, as such, earns Top Ten Reviews' Bronze Award for video capture software.

Capture Tools

Adobe Presenter's recording tools are some of the easiest to learn and use among the video capture applications we reviewed. Starting a screen-recording session only takes a couple of mouse clicks to start and two keystrokes to end. You can turn on your webcam during the recording so you can capture your face for a picture-in-picture effect. No other program we reviewed makes it easier to record your screen or webcam.

There is a glaring omission in this video capture application: There's no option for capturing sound from your computer – only voice narration through a microphone. This eliminates the ability to record VoIP through programs like Skype. It also hampers your ability to record streaming internet video and video games since the audio will be missing. If you're on a budget, you might want to investigate the Smartpixel Pro software.

Editing Tools

Once you've stopped recording, the program immediately opens its editing module, which is arguably the easiest editor we encountered in our review. All of the editing tools (and their functions) are easily accessible from the editor's main interface. Anyone can learn and use this software with few to no problems.

The video editor also allows you to cut unwanted footage, insert videos, pan and zoom across the frame as well as add text and titles. Using these tools, you easily enhance your video and draw attention to the most important parts.

Another useful feature is that you can switch back and forth between webcam and screen footage with a single mouse click. You can also choose a picture-in-picture effect so your audience sees both you and the screen capture, giving your presentation a personal touch you wouldn't otherwise achieve.

Unfortunately, the editor doesn't provide any tools that allow you to fine-tune the audio. Since you can only capture external sounds through a microphone, you're forced to rerecord your narration.

Once you have your video presentation the way you want it, Adobe Presenter lets you easily export it to your computer or upload it directly to sharing sites like YouTube and Vimeo. However, its export options are limited to a single video format: MP4. While this is an almost universally accepted and playable format, we'd like to see more options.

Our video experts inspected a test video produced by Adobe Presenter Video Express. They found the video wasn't perfect, but the flaws were minimal. They noted some minor pixelation and video hesitation in the picture – it's something your audience may notice, but it shouldn't distract from the overall viewing experience.

Help & Support

It's not surprising that Adobe offers a wide array of help and support options. If you have a problem, a technical question, or need customer support, the first place you should visit is Adobe's website. There, you'll find exhaustive material on all of their products.

Adobe's website is full of great articles, tips and tutorials about how their software works and how to get the most out of it. Few companies invest this much effort into making sure their customers are satisfied and are able to use what they buy.

Adobe Presenter Video Express 11 claims third place in our review of the best video capture software for many reasons. Chief among them is how easy it is for anyone, regardless of one's computer skill level, to capture their screens and make a professional-level presentation fit for almost any audience, and accomplish it in just minutes.

It's missing some of the features we look for like audio editing and capturing sound from your computer. However, its benefits far outweigh its flaws.
