Total Video Downloader from Etinysoft has a single function: It downloads nearly any video on the internet. It is one of the simplest online video downloaders we reviewed. The program downloads videos as well as or better than the competition, but it can’t convert videos to other formats once they're on your computer.
The software’s interface is basically an internet browser with shortcuts to the most popular video-sharing sites, including YouTube, Vimeo and Dailymotion. You navigate those sites, find the video you want and click the download button, after which you'll see a dialogue box confirming you want to download that video. Once you click OK, the video goes into your download queue.
It's easy to find files on your hard drive after they download – all you do is push the magnifying glass next to the file in your queue, and the program brings up the folder the video downloaded to. You can then transfer it into a syncing, editing or converting application if you want to do further work with the video.
Not only does this application download videos from the most popular sharing sites, but it also works with nearly every video-sharing service you likely use. Total Video Downloader's website has a list of over 100 video services with which it is compatible. These sites include major content creators such as CBS, ABC and NBC.
However, this program can’t compete with the best video downloader software because it only downloads. The best programs can also convert videos to different file formats and optimize them for playback on devices such as smartphones, tablets and gaming systems.
Summary
Total Video Downloader is a fine choice if you just want to download videos onto your Mac computer. It's one of the easiest-to-use applications we reviewed, but if you want to convert and optimize videos, you need a different program.
