If you have an insurance policy through Esurance, the company will file for the documentation in your behalf. Typically it takes up to two weeks to get the form. During this time, you may not be able to drive until you receive the form back from the state. Esurance can tell you what is required. The fee to file is usually $25, though some states may be slightly higher.

Auto insurance is generally expensive for any driver. If you have any questionable driving counts against you on your record, you may find your insurance rates are higher than normal. This car insurance provider offers policy discounts even if you have the SR-22 form. Typically, car insurance discounts with Esurance include the Fast 5 discount, multiple-policy discount, paid-in-full discount, Switch-n-Save discount and even a discount when you purchase your homeowners and your automobile insurance on the same policy. The paid-in-full discount can save you up to 10 percent.

The company also offers a DriveSense discount, which requires you to install a small device in your car. The device records how you drive and lowers your premiums if you're a careful driver. The immediate discount is either 5 or 10 percent, depending on the state, and subsequent discounts depend on your driving. The company states it won't raise the price beyond what you'd normally pay, regardless of your driving habits.

Most states require you to have continuous coverage for up to three years while you need the SR-22, and many states require to you have the SR-22 form whether you drive or not. If you plan on not driving or carrying insurance, you should check to see if you will eventually have to carry the form or lose your license.

Esurance provides information on auto insurance discounts and will file for the SR-22 form for you when you purchase a qualifying auto insurance policy through the company. Esurance can help you maintain minimum coverage while still keeping your costs low during the entire length of the SR-22 requirement.
