Good news for Star Wars fans as it looks like The Mandalorian season 2 is on track to hit its release date on October 2020, according to creator Jon Favreau. The Mandalorian is a Disney Plus exclusive TV series set in the Star Wars universe. The show has been a hit for Disney Plus and has helped propel it into the best TV streaming services competition alongside established giants like Netflix.

This update comes off the back of news from Disney CEO Bob Chapek who said that the team was finishing up the series from home. It’s safe to assume that filming had already wrapped up by the time the coronavirus pandemic forced us all into lockdown, so the remaining work will have been post-production and editing. Either that or the actors shot a load of scenes on a green screen in their garage.

Since it’s launch at the tail end of last year, Disney Plus has gone from strength to strength. While the service managed to pick up an impressive 28.6 million subscribers worldwide by February of this year, Disney managed to blow those numbers out of the water by announcing it had hit over 50 million subscribers by April. Some of that growth came from opening in new markets, but a lot of it has been down to growth in the US thanks to the service's impressive offerings. Disney Plus gets you access to Marvel, Star Wars, Disney and even The Simpsons, along with national Geographic if you’re feeling a bit more educational.

Favreau gave the update when he appeared at the Austin Television Festival, which was hosted entirely virtually this year for the first time in its history. "It will be available in October as planned on Disney Plus," said Favreau when questioned on air. "We were lucky enough to have finished photography before the lockdown. Thanks to how technology-forward Lucasfilm and ILM are, we have been able to do all of our visual effects and editing and all our post-production remotely through systems that had been set up by those companies for us."

We can’t wait to step back into the galaxy far far away when The Mandalorian season 2 hits our screens in October. If there’s one thing the world could use more of right now, it’s baby Yoda.
