Typing Pal from De Marque seeks to transform you into a better typist with numerous exercises, learning plans and teaching tools. The lessons are engaging and effective, but the software lacks skill level tests to see how you’re doing; plus, no matter your typing skill level, this typing software app forces all users to start from the beginning. It lands in 5th place on our list.
This application offers a fun alternative to the drudgery of going through repetitive exercises to get a higher words-per-minute (WPM) score. It doesn’t offer as many games as some of the other typing practice software we reviewed, but the colorful, engaging interface and relative ease of use more than makes up for this shortcoming.
Every exercise has an entertaining animation at the bottom that plays once you start hitting the keys. If you make a mistake, the boss will either come in putting his finger up disapprovingly, or the person you’re eating lunch with will steal a piece of your food for themselves.
Unfortunately, even if you’re skills as a typist are better than average and you simply want to brush up, you will still have to start at the beginning with Typing Pal typing software. There isn’t a way to jump ahead to more advanced lessons without starting from the very beginning.
Typing Pal offers texts for you to type, audio files for you to transcribe, exercises to help you improve your typing repertoire and three games to break up the serious work. You can learn about ergonomics under the learning tab, and you'll even practice mastering shortcuts and special characters for the internet.
A big feature that is unique to this typing software application is found under the follow-up tab. This feature tracks your speed and accuracy when you use other computer applications that require typing. It collects statistics to inform you about where you need to improve.
Typing Pal is a great product in terms of simplicity, but it lacks some of the important features that make the top-rated products shine, such as 10-key lessons and skill level tests. These are important features that should be included in all typing software apps.
Other Typing Software reviews
Typing Pal’s manufacturer, De Marque, offers several help and support options, including a user manual, an FAQs page and direct contact through an email form and a toll free number. The company is based in Quebec, Canada, and their hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. Eastern Standard Time, Monday through Friday.
Typing Pal is a typing software application that doesn’t veer off the path of wanting to teach you how to be a better typist. While it does lack a few features, it's by no means a product to stay away from..Other applications offer more variety, but this is a fine application for teaching typing and for practicing your skills.
