The Kohler Elevance Rising Wall K-1913-LB walk-in bathtub can fill your need for a tub regardless of your level of mobility. Unlike most walk-in tubs that have narrow doors, this unique tub has a sliding wall built into the side that lowers to the floor. This means that you can easily get in this tub without stepping over anything. In fact, you can even slide over from a wheelchair into the chair-height tub's seat easily.
Aging in place is easier with this safe step tub. It's ADA-compliant, which means it includes safety features such as a textured floor to prevent slipping and a built-in grab bar to hold for stability. This handicap tub is the same length as standard bathtubs, but because of its sliding door, it's a bit wider at 34 inches. The wall is easy to move, requiring only about 5 pounds of force to lift or lower. The door includes two leak-proof seals, so you don't have to worry about water on your floor. In case anything happens to those seals, they're protected by a lifetime warranty – as long as you have the tub installed by a qualified person.
You need to spend some time in the tub without water, both while it's filling and while it's emptying, so Kohler integrates helpful features into the tub to make it quick. The waterfall faucet fills your tub in less than five minutes – and it looks lovely as it does so. The dual drain system pulls water out of the tub in less than two minutes, so you don't have to sit shivering for too long. Another tub the fills up and empties fast and offers jets as a paid add-on option is the Ariel EZWT-3060.
Another unique feature of the Kohler Elevance is its shape. Most walk-in tubs have seats that keep you in an upright position. This tub, though, is more reclined, which allows you to stretch out and relax, more like a traditional bathtub.
The cost of this safe step tub is higher than the prices of many other safety soaking tubs, but its convenient design is worth it for certain circumstances. It includes a 10-year limited warranty for the tub itself, in addition to a one-year warranty on components and the lifetime warranty on the door seals.
