V7, the maker of this capable wireless pair, specializes in high-quality, low-cost computer accessories like the V7 2.4 GHz Wireless Keyboard Mouse Combo. With this wireless keyboard and mouse set, you'll be getting a great return on a relatively small investment. This combo is able to compete with the higher-ranking dynamic duos on our lineup in just about every area except wireless range. In fact, we were so impressed by its features that we had to include it in the top 10.

This keyboard is able to guarantee a wireless range of only 20 feet where other keyboards are able to deliver 30 feet or more. While this could be a problem if you intend to access your computer applications from across a large room, most users report needing only 15 feet or less to escape the feeling of being tethered to the desk. If you are purchasing this combo to work mainly at your desk, the range discrepancy is a moot point. The keyboard is equipped with hot keys that provide one-touch access to media and internet applications and has a battery level indicator. The mouse also has a battery level indicator as well as a power switch for conserving battery life when the mouse is not in use.

Set in black with silver accents, this wireless keyboard and mouse combo sports clean lines, a space-saving key arrangement and practical extras. It has a standard layout for the most part, although its arrow keys have been shifted to the left and its delete/home/page keys have been relocated to the right of the F keys. This design makes the keyboard more compact and able to leave a smaller footprint on your desk than its competitors. Neither the keyboard nor the mouse can be called ergonomic, but the mouse has a light feel to it and fits comfortably in the hand. Weighing in at a mere 1.48 pounds, the keyboard is easily portable as well. The USB receiver doesn’t snap onto the bottom of the mouse like some do but is large enough as to not get lost easily.

One category that V7 excels in is the way they assist their customers. On their website they have downloadable drivers, manuals and quick start guides in multiple languages. They have a search option to help you find vendors of their products near you and information for each location. We were a little disappointed in the variety of frequently asked questions but realized that a handy email address and telephone were close by to contact V7 with more in-depth questions.

Like most wireless keyboard and mouse combos on the market, V7 offers similar compatibility options. If you run Windows XP, Vista or Windows 7 on your computer this combo will work without a hitch. However, if you have a Mac, V7 doesn’t guarantee that its product will properly operate with your computer.

One of the problems with purchasing an inexpensive wireless keyboard and mouse combo is that you get what you pay for. The V7 2.4 GHz Wireless Keyboard Mouse Combo is a perfectly good product and will wirelessly access your computer from up to 20 feet away, but there are several things you miss with this kind of setup. For one, you miss out on an ergonomic design proven to help prevent carpal tunnel. For another, you miss features like spill-resistant keys, a rechargeable base and adjustable heights and angles. We do like this user-friendly setup though and think it is as easy to use as any other combo sets we’ve reviewed.
