The Black & Decker 12-Cup rice cooker is the only electric rice cooker Black & Decker offers that has a cool-touch pot. This one-touch rice steamer is a good choice for a basic model.
The outer shell of the Black & Decker 12-Cup has a sleek, stainless steel design. This rice cooker has a removable and dishwasher-safe nonstick cooking bowl. The bowl can hold up to 6 cups of uncooked rice and yields 12 cups fully cooked.
The black lid locks in place, and there's a condensation catcher to collect moisture while the rice is warming. The lid also has a durable handle that makes this rice cooker easy to transport. The control panel has a minimalist feel. There is one switch which starts the cooking, and the machine automatically switches to warm when the rice is finished.
This model comes with a large, white steamer basket, along with a measuring bowl and a serving spoon. The steamer function can be used either while you're cooking rice or as a standalone steamer. The Black & Decker 12-Cup can also be filled to capacity without the worry of additional mess or inconsistent cooking. Unlike more basic models, you won't get different result from the rice on the bottom and the rice in the middle of the pot.
Like other cool-touch rice cookers, you are unable to control when it decides to switch to warm, and you can only shut off the model completely by unplugging it. While the model tends to do a good job with white or basmati rice, other grains may be undercooked, and the only way to extend the cooking time is by unplugging the rice cooker, plugging it back in and flipping it back to the Cook mode.
The Black & Decker 12-Cup Rice Cooker is not the most convenient model, and it doesn’t come with a lot of extra features or capabilities. However, it will provide you with consistently well-prepared rice. Its sturdy top handle is a nice addition not offered by other rice cookers in the same price range, and its stainless steel outer shell is pleasing to the eye and easy to clean.
