The Samsung 18-55mm f3.5-5.6 OIS III Zoom offers a way to change your camera’s settings as you preview your shot in real-time.
Its claim to fame is the i-Function button. Most DSLR zoom lenses allow you change just your zoom and focus by turning the rings around the lens. In addition to these settings, the i-Function button on this lens lets you set your shutter speed, aperture and ISO by toggling which option you want to adjust with the turning ring. You don’t have to pull your eye away from the shot to wheel through the camera’s options.
The lens is designed to work with Samsung’s preset i-Scene Modes for specific scenarios, which include modes for photographing portraits, children, backlit scenes, landscapes, sunsets, dawn, beach and snow, and night. These presets can be optimized for any Samsung NX camera and lens by downloading the latest lens and camera firmware from Samsung. All you need to do is plug in your camera (with the lens attached) via USB cable to your computer and download the company’s application.
The focal range of 18-55mm gives you a broad scope of angles to get the type of shot you’re after, whether it’s a tight telephoto shot or a wide-angle landscape shot. At the minimum focal distance of 18mm, this lens gives you about a 75-degree field of view, and with a zoom range of 3x, you’ll be able to take long distance shots with ease. The provided lens hood increases clarity and reduces flaring.
The autofocus is lightning quick at 0.17 seconds, allowing you to catch those spontaneous moments on film, all in focus. Shooting with shaky hands or in low light is supplemented by an optical image stabilizer in the lens.
This lens is compatible with Samsung’s NX compact system camera line which is a mirrorless camera. It weighs only of 0.44 pounds and measures 2.6 inches, so it adds to the portability of your kit.
The Samsung 18-55mm f3.5-5.6 OIS III Zoom puts more control at your fingertips by bringing settings like shutter speed and aperture to the turning ring with the i-Function feature. A large focal range gives you a plenty of angles to play with the i-Function and get the right shot.
