I review appliances like coffee machines for a living, and I've tried all sorts of coffee makers from Nespressos to De'Longhis to Cuisinarts. When splashing out on a new coffee maker for the home, I always find it best to choose one with versatility - and that you can trust will make a tasty cup of coffee.

It's easy to get swept up in the deals and go for what looks to be the biggest discount, but I find that it's best to use the sales to your advantage. Rather than buying a discounted version of something that's already cheap, use it to invest in something worthwhile while it's more affordable.

One of the best coffee makers will brew decent cups for years to come, so spending the money now will save you plenty of money down the line. And if you choose a machine with diverse options, it'll give you fewer reasons to visit your local coffee shop and pay high prices for a fresh cup when you can brew it at home - with your favorite beans too.

Pod brewers like Nespresso and Keurig can be great for anyone who prioritises convenience, while bean-to-cup machines offer more authentic brewing and more customization options. If you're unsure which is right for you, there are plenty of decent coffee makers that can do both! More on that later.

Based on my coffee drinking experience and preference of high-quality coffee makers, below I have listed out the coffee maker deals that I'm not so tempted by during today's Amazon Prime Day deals, and the coffee makers that I am most certainly tempted by.

I'm not buying...

Keurig K-Duo Coffee Maker| was $189.99

Keurig K-Duo Coffee Maker| was $189.99, now $139.99 (save $50)

Keurig machines are known for their speed, simplicity and variety, but with that comes a steeped-up price that often doesn't reflect the quality of the coffee. Brewing too quickly can result in under-extracted coffee, which may explain why many users don't review the taste of Keurig coffee too highly.

At this price, I'd prioritise a more flavourful cup. And with all the deals we're seeing on coffee makers right now, getting a better coffee maker for this price is an easy task.

Famiworths Single Serve Coffee Maker| was $69.99

Famiworths Single Serve Coffee Maker| was $69.99, now $39.99 (save $30)

A cheap coffee machine might seem like an easy way to have a quick caffeine fix in the morning, but often this can come with more effort than it's worth. Cheaper coffee machines are usually made with cheaper materials, so they might not last as long as you'd think. Paying the bit extra for a higher quality coffee maker from a more trusted brand can save you money down the line.

Keurig K-Iced | was $99.99

Keurig K-Iced | was $99.99, now $59.99 (save $40)

A specially-designed coffee maker for iced coffees is a dreamy appliance to have in the summer - but may not be used too often in the colder months. The K-Iced cools the coffee down before pouring over ice to reduce melting, but many other pod brewers can achieve a similar effect while also being able to brew a wide range of hot coffees.

If you already own a machine for hot coffee, the K-Iced could be a great addition to your setup. But for anyone with limited countertop space, any traditional pod brewer may be better.

But, what I am buying...

Bruvi Bundle | was $398

Bruvi Bundle | was $398, now $198 at Amazon (save $200)

The Bruvi Coffee Maker Bundle is by far the best coffee maker deal we've seen during Prime's Big Deal Days. Bruvi is a new brand, with the single-serve coffee maker offered as an alternative to Nespresso's and Keurig's pod brewers.

Putting its beautiful, almost immaculate design aside - the Bruvi machine is made from premium materials like steel, zinc, and bamboo, and the pods are degradable allowing for a more sustainable cup of coffee. If you're looking to switch to a more conscious pod brewer, now might be the best chance.

The bundle has over 50% off its list price for Prime Day, and the coffee maker comes with a water filter kit and 20 coffee and espresso pods.

De'Longhi All-in-One Combination Coffee Maker & Espresso Machine | was $319.95

De'Longhi All-in-One Combination Coffee Maker & Espresso Machine | was $319.95, now $239.95 at Walmart (save $80)

$80 is a massive discount, especially when the coffee maker is an all-inclusive machine that offers a great deal of choice in how you make your coffee.

A dual heating system allows you to make espressos and coffees alongside each other, including lattes and cappuccinos thanks to the built-in milk 'Steam Wand.' You can also choose between using your pods or your favorite ground coffee, with a touch screen to program brew strength or use the 24-hour timer.

Included is a 10-cup glass coffee pot with a carafe warmer, along with filters, baskets and a measuring spoon for a complete setup.

Using holiday sales to your advantage can leave you with the full package: a comprehensive coffee maker that you can use all-year round to make a diverse range of high-quality coffees.

Alternative Pick: Nespresso Creatista Pro

AeroPress Original Single Cup Coffee Maker| was $44.95

AeroPress Original Single Cup Coffee Maker| was $44.95, now $34.98 at Walmart (save $9.97)

Anyone who's tasted coffee from an AeroPress will understand the hype...

The simple, hand-powered device combines the espresso, pour-over, and French press brewing methods to produce coffee that's well-bodied and appropriately extracted. Hot water is pushed through the coffee grinds to aerate and extract pure flavour, with a paper filter to reduce acidity and bitterness.

It's fully portable, too, so for a much lower price you can have good-tasting coffee on the go (all you need is your coffee grinds and hot water). It doesn't have the versatility of an advanced coffee machine, but you'll struggle to find a coffee maker for under $35 that makes coffee as good as this.

Alternative Pick: Mueller French Press

De’Longhi Dinamica| was $1,099.95

De’Longhi Dinamica| was $1,099.95, now $918.99 at Best Buy (save $180.96)

The De'Longhi Dinamica is the real deal. It can brew espressos and long espressos, as well as drip-style coffees and milk coffees (like lattes and cappuccinos) thanks to the integrated milk frother.

And unlike many coffee machines, it features tech that's specially-tailored for iced coffee. For full-bodied iced coffee, the Dinamica brews at a lower temperature, pre-infusing the grinds to ensure the coffee isn't watered down, and gives the coffee beans the appropriate treatment to extract maximum flavour.

Coffee purists will love that the machine has technology to accurately grind the perfect amount of coffee beans, leaving no residual coffee in the brew unit. It's a premium machine for true lovers of coffee, and will remind you why it's worth paying extra for good quality.
