PROS / You can immerse the food while the lid is closed to keep the hot oil contained.
CONS / This fryer doesn’t include a timer.
VERDICT / The Hamilton Beach fryer doesn't come with convenient oil filtration or storage features, but it is easy to put together and operate, and it didn’t make a mess. We were able to cook decent fries and chicken with little effort.
Hamilton Beach is an American small appliance manufacturer that's been around since the early 1900s. It specializes in compact appliances that fit in on your countertop. The Immersion Heater Deep Fryer ( 35021) is a small but sturdy unit encased in a black plastic shell that wouldn’t look out of place on your countertop.
The Hamilton Beach Immersion Heater includes a 1,500-watt heating element that is designed to quickly heat cooking oil. This gives the fryer a 15-minute heat-up time and a quick two-and-a-half minute recovery time. On the other hand, there is another piece to hand-wash once you're done frying. The container holds 1.9 liters (about eight cups) of oil and cooks up just over three pounds of food per batch.
This deep fryer wasn’t difficult to use. You just pour the oil to the fill line and set the temperature. An indicator light lets you know the electric deep fryer is on, and another lets you when it's ready. We fried fresh-cut potatoes and breaded chicken, and it took little effort or know-how to achieve crispy fries and juicy chicken.
The Hamilton Beach omits some convenience features from this fryer. For example, it doesn't come with a timer. In addition, it doesn't come with any sort of oil filtration or storage features, and it proved difficult pouring the oil out of the fryer without making a mess. While the inner container is dishwasher safe, you'll want to wipe down the lid and element thoroughly after each use.
This deep fat fryer has a few features to ensure safety while you cook. The basket can be raised or lowered while the lid is on, which is when the majority of the splattering happens with deep fryers. The cord attaches to the fryer with a magnet so you can easily cut the power in the event of an emergency, and the fryer is quite stable on its base. The fryer's plastic exterior maintains a moderate temperature – the max temperature we recorded was 140 degrees Fahrenheit.
Hamilton Beach guarantees the Immersion Heater Deep Fryer to be free from defects for one year. You can register the fryer online, and Hamilton Beach’s website offers customer service by phone and email between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Eastern time, Monday through Friday. The user manual is also available online, and you can find replacement parts if you lose any pieces or something gets damaged.
The Hamilton Beach Immersion Heater is one of the best deep fryers if you're a beginner or have a small kitchen. While it doesn't come with a timer, it is easy to keep things clean, and it doesn’t use a lot of oil.
