QuickStart Desktop Publishing by IMSI is an inexpensive desktop publishing software program with some solid basic features. If you want a wide array of projects and templates, however, it's somewhat limited compared to other products.

Although the included templates don't come with built-in text and pictures, you can quickly edit text by double-clicking the text area. Graphics are a little tougher to change on the templates: double-clicking the image area will only bring up the picture information box. If you want to add a picture you'll have to import a graphic using the file menu.

When you add text and graphics to your desktop documents you're limited to the different effects you can use. You can add a few shapes with text and headlines, but you can't really get as creative as our top-rated desktop products allow you to. Images are even more limited: you can add images and change their size but you can't really apply any effects to the image. Also, there are no tools to fix flaws or adjust the color, brightness or contrast of the image.

If cost is an issue, this program may work for you. But if you can afford to spend a little more money you might want to look at our reviews for higher-ranked products to see what tools they offer.
