Pros / The interface is easy to master in a short amount of time.
Cons / Its features are meager, as it lacks a large number of template and text options, and you can't add video or music to your collages.
Verdict / SnowFox's interface caters to anyone transitioning from handmade collages to digital, and its support services are good enough to make you proficient quickly.
Editor's note: A newer version of this product is available. Clicking the buy button will take you to this new version for purchase. We will review this new version when we next update Photo Collage Software. Until then, enjoy our review for SnowFox Collage Maker 1.1.2.
SnowFox Photo Collage Maker is a great photo-collage program for anyone who is transitioning from handmade collages to digital, but we did not find quite as many features on SnowFox as in the best collage software programs. This program benefits people who are trying to learn the ropes of collage making, as it has a simple interface. You also don't have to master many advanced features such as adding video or music.
SnowFox has customizable backgrounds, an automatic collage maker and plenty of image-editing tools. It is a solid photo-collage program, but one thing that holds it back is the lack of text options and templates. There are templates for holidays and prominent events, and some basic text options, but not much beyond that. You can add drop shadows to your photos and crop them, but you can't add video or music to your collages. Most collage programs have those features, so SnowFox Photo Collage Maker is behind in this regard. If you want access to hundreds of backgrounds and embellishments you might want to consider using The Print Shop Deluxe.
One of SnowFox's strengths is how easy the software is to learn with the intuitive drag-and-drop function, as well as the tutorials on the manufacturer's site. You can also zoom in and out of your collages, so you can keep a close eye on your pictures throughout the process. Rotating your pictures is also an important element. There are a few things missing that bring its score down a little for us, including red-eye removal. You also do not have the option to adjust weight in pictures of people.
SnowFox comes up short with its export options. You can download collages onto your hard drive, Facebook and other social media outlets, but you can't burn them to CD or DVD. This makes it difficult to create a soft copy and share collages with friends and family. You also can't save it as a PDF file.
The support services are wonderful compared to other photo-collage programs. The website has tutorials, and the FAQs page is full of tips and information about the software. Emailing customer support is an option, and we received a quick reply within 24 hours. A Facebook page for the company is also available, so you can find updates and occasional instructional videos.
SnowFox is a good start for anyone who wants to learn the ins and outs of photo-collage software quickly. You can familiarize yourself with the interface quickly, and the few features available are simple to understand. However, if you're familiar with digital photo collages, you might want to find a program that is more advanced.
