PROS / This home design software has a lot of sample home and room templates.
CONS / The navigation tools are not easy to use. 3D walkthroughs are more difficult than they should be.
VERDICT / This is good software for a beginning home designer. It has lots of sample plans to use and is inexpensive; however, the program presents low-quality 2D floor plans and 3D renderings that are prone to malfunction.
Total 3D Home Design Deluxe has enough features to land it a spot in our top 10 ranking of home design software, but it can be difficult to use at times and is missing some design tools. There are many sample plans to choose from to help you get started on a floor plan, or you can build a plan from scratch. In addition to the sample floor plans, this software has room templates that feature predesigned rooms you can use to decorate any room in your home.
One of this room design software’s standout features is its large selection of sample floor plans. More than 1,000 sample floor plans are available in this application, which is enough options to help you create your perfect home. There are also editable room templates you can use to quickly furnish your home. To put your home design together, you can click on a room template, drag it to the appropriate location on your plan and then resize it to match your desired dimensions. It's fast and simple.
This floor plan software also comes with a cost estimator. The cost estimator keeps track of the cost of materials you plan to use in your home, so you stay on budget and know what the project financially entails before you invest time, effort and money into it.
Total 3D Home Design Deluxe has a library of more than 1,000 objects. These objects are diverse, and there are items for every room in your home. The library houses a variety of cabinet combinations, so you can design the perfect bathroom and kitchen. Even though the object library seems large, it is not as big as most of the libraries in other products we tested.
This program doesn’t produce quality floor plans like other products in our review. The 2D floor plan uses symbols that are overly simplistic, and the design tools are less comprehensive, leaving the user wanting more. The tool panel sits on the left side of the screen, where you can build walls, windows, doors, fireplaces and stairs. However, the tools are limited. For example, the wall tool is not capable of building curved walls.
We found that the 3D display tools did not work correctly in our testing; there were several missing walls and items, as well as incomplete images. The navigation tools in the software are not as easy to use as those in other home design software we reviewed. We had difficulty seeing different angles and inside the home using the program’s click-and-drag method, and there were malfunctions that erased walls, and at one point, the entire house.
If you experience any problems or have a hard time getting used to this floor plan software, Total 3D Home Design Deluxe has several support resources. Email and telephone support are available if you wish to speak directly with a customer support representative. There are also FAQs and video tutorials available on the company’s website to help you along the way.
Total 3D Home Design Deluxe has enough features to land a spot in our top 10 lineup, but usability issues keep the software from competing with the best home design programs. There are many home and room templates to get novice users started, and the cost estimator helps you plan for home renovation. This inexpensive software is a good tool for beginning software designers.
