Karaoke USA GF842 review: Design and build

The Karaoke USA GF842 isn't very large considering how much is crammed into this karaoke machine. For a start there's a 7-inch TFT color screen which means you can watch lyrics as you sing along.

Controls for each microphone run down the side of either screen with lighted knob and button controls. The speaker front has LED lighting which allows you to enjoy changing lights for more of a party feel as you sing.

There is a cradle on top which holds smartphones – this is useful if you're streaming music from a device since this is also Bluetooth capable. It also features an aux in 1.8" port for wired connections.

The whole karaoke machine is 12 x 10 x 17.8 inches in size and it weighs is at a total of 9.5 pounds. So it might not be the lightest but this does all pack in a DVD player.

The drive can not only take DVDs, effectively making this a portable DVD player, but also CD+G discs which are the ones that feature karaoke songs with the lyrics on screen.

Karaoke USA GF842 review: Features and performance

The Karaoke USA GF842 LED has lighting which actually synchronizes with the music being played. That means the flash will pulse with the tunes allowing you to get fully immersed and, of course, to help everyone else dance along.

If you're a good enough singer to have fans, then you'll probably also make good use of the record feature. This allows you to record your singing efforts in MP3 format to a connected SD card.

The Karaoke USA GF842 comes with two microphones as well as a disc complete with 300 songs which makes this very easy to get started with right away, even for beginners.

The Karaoke USA GF842 features a 35W amplifier. This could be more powerful and, as such, may leave you wanting punchier volume in noisy environments. That said, it does offer a well balanced sound which has enough quality to make voices clear even when overlaid on the music tracks.

Audio control is good with optional adjustment of analog echo control, balance control and digital key control. The fact you can instantly playback your recording of a song is a nice touch, which makes for a potential good laugh when in a group.

Should you buy the Karaoke USA GF842?

The Karaoke USA GF842 is a true all in one karaoke machine. Thanks to the inclusion of a large screen, LED lighting, dual microphones, audio controls, Bluetooth connectivity, the DVD drive and a record option – this has everything you could need to get the full experience right out of the box.

The only downside is this could be more powerful for a louder sound output. That said, for most homes, it will be plenty and the quality is decent, as you'd expect for the price.
