The BankAmericard Travel Rewards® is an air miles credit card that uses a points system. You earn 1.5 points for every dollar you spend, which you can then redeem for a number of different travel rewards, including air miles rewards.
Although this air miles credit card falls short on travel benefits, it does include concierge services and annual bonus points for qualifying members. Like the other frequent flyer credit cards we reviewed, you won’t have to worry about running into blackout dates when using your points to book travel. Additionally, this air miles rewards card offers new card members an average sign-up offer. If you spend $500 in the first 90 days of having the card, Bank of America gives you 10,000 bonus flight miles.
This air miles card’s key features get a little tricky. Bank of America doesn’t automatically include many common features like roadside assistance or extended product warranty, only offering these to card members depending on account approval, meaning the benefits each person receives could be different, so you need to verify that the features you want are included in the cardmember agreement. However, Bank of America automatically includes zero liability, and there is no expiration date or total point limit.
This air miles card is one of two in our review that offers an introductory 0% annual percentage rate on purchases for the first 12 months you have the card. Following the initial first 12 months, you can expect a 14.99% to 22.99% Variable APR on purchases you make as well as any balance transfer transactions. If you plan to use this card for cash advances, the APR gets a bit tricky. For direct deposit and check cash advances, your APR will be 22.99%, while bank cash advances are a higher 24.99% APR. Additionally, a 29.99% penalty APR is attached to this card.
One of the best things about this air miles card is that it has no annual fee, which makes it an attractive, affordable option. This card also has no charge on international purchases, so you're free to purchase merchandise on your travels abroad without paying an extra fee on the items you purchase.
Other fees that are associated with this card are its minimum $10 or 3% fee for any cash advance or balance transfer transactions you make. Additionally, if you don’t make your monthly payment within the 25-day grace period, a late fee, up to $35, is applied to your account.
Bank of America makes it very easy to contact member support. The company is available via phone 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and you can also reach a customer service agent via live chat . Additionally, Bank of America lists many frequently asked questions on its website for your reference.
The BankAmericard Travel Rewards® air miles credit card is great for earning points that you can put towards travel, but it does fall short in many areas, like the travel benefits and key features it offers. However, you pay no annual fee with this card.
