Pros / Zippy Shell offers a loading and unloading upgrade option.
Cons / This company has long transit times.
Verdict / Zippy Shell has well designed containers and is widely available, but it is one of the more expensive options we found.
When looking for a moving container, price is one of the most important considerations. While Zippy Shell has a few helpful features, it is one of the most expensive container companies we reviewed.
We got quotes for three moves – a few miles, a few hundred miles and a few thousand miles – to provide examples of how much it could cost you to move. For each move Zippy Shell was among the most expensive, with estimates well above average. For longer moves, the quotes we got were about $500 above average, more expensive than a comparable move with SmartBox or U-Haul. Local moves were only about $20 more expensive than average.
Unlike other companies, Zippy Shell is broadly available; we had no trouble getting quotes for any location we tested. Not all container companies service every part of the country, so it’s important to check if it even operates in the area you’re moving to.
Zippy Shell containers come in two sizes, a 10-foot and 15-foot. The 10-foot is well suited for one to two rooms of furniture and boxes while the 15-foot is great if you need to move two or three rooms. One advantage of Zippy Shell is that the container is housed inside a trailer, which has a license plate so it can be parked in locations where other containers would be prohibited.
You can also use the container for storage, either at your home or at a Zippy Shell warehouse. This is a good option if you’re remodeling your home and need a place to stow your things. One month’s storage is included in the initial cost, but if you need more the monthly cost is $159.
Zippy Shell had one of the longer transit times, between 10 and 14 days from point-to-point for long distance moves. If you need a quick turnaround, this may not be the best service.
Zippy Shell is one of the few companies that includes loading and unloading assistance as an option. This is provided by the company itself and not a third-party service. This service adds about $350 to your bill. In some cases, you may be able to find promotional offers that reduce or remove these fees.
