Rheem Gladiator 50-gallon Water Heater: What you need to know

The Rheem Gladiator 50-gallon water heater is a smart electric heater that can easily heat water for up to five people in one household.

This smart gas water heater is EcoNet enabled so you can sync it with any systems you have in place that offer home automation and security as well as energy conservation. Rheem provides a free EcoNet mobile app and the WiFi Kit is included in your purchase. With these, you can manage your water heater's temperature, adjust controls to different settings and monitor its functioning while you are away or even while sitting comfortably in the living room. In addition, you get a water sensor that can detect leaks and send you an alert through this system.

Even better, this water heater comes with a huge 12-year warranty - one of the longest we reviewed.

Rheem Gladiator 50-gallon Water Heater: Design & features

This is an easy to use gas water heater since it has no filter to clean. For safety's sake, it incorporates an air fuel shut-off capability, and its sensors also will turn the heater off if any potentially flammable vapor starts building up. The vent system and hood keep the area where you store the water heater safe from carbon monoxide accumulation so your household can enjoy a measure of protection against asphyxiation, fire or explosion.

Other features we liked were the Vacation Mode which allows you to save money when you’re away or just out of the house for a few days - helping to keep energy bills down. You can easily set the Vacation Mode once you’ve left home from your phone.

The helpful hot water Availability Indicator feature allows you to check there is enough water before you hop in the shower. Although, the Rheem water heater is designed for families of up to five people so it’s likely you’ll have enough hot water to see you through.

Other smart features that will make life easier are the Energy Usage Tracker which helps you to stay on top of your monthly and annual usage. The Diagnostic Mode also helps a plumber to see what’s wrong with your water heater via the app, without even stepping into your home.

Rheem Gladiator 50-gallon Water Heater: User reviews

User reviews of the Rheem Gladiator water heater are wholly positive. Many reviews mention how useful the app is to allow you to check the water levels in the water heater. Others also mention the great customer service and quick support that was given to them from Rheem. We did notice a few reviews mentioned issues with the leak detector, however, most noted that these were relatively easy to fix.

Should you buy the Rheem Gladiator 50-gallon Water Heater?

If you want a hot water heater that has a fantastic warranty for peace of mind, then the Rheem Gladiator water heater is a great choice. Rheem itself has a great reputation for making reliable water heaters and with pretty positive user reviews, this water heater is a good investment for family homes.
