Epicurean Digital Kitchen Scale Review

Author by

PROS / This scale is capable of weighing objects up to 25 pounds.

CONS / It only displays results in grams, ounces and pounds.

VERDICT / This is an accurate and handsome scale that will fit well in any kitchen.

Of all the food scales on our side-by-side comparison chart, the Epicurean Digital Kitchen Scale is the most stylish. It has a thick, arched base and an elegant glass weighing platform that makes this kitchen scale a great match for a kitchen with class. It performs rather well too. In our tests, this scale scored nearly perfectly for accuracy and consistency. Unfortunately, its limited measurement units kept it out of award-winning territory in our review of the best food scales available.

Aside from its looks, this scale has a lot to like. It has a substantial weight capacity. You can weigh items as heavy as 18 pounds with this food scale. Only one other scale in our review matches this ability, and the same manufacturer – Ozeri – makes it. When you weigh an item with this scale, the display will show a weight down to 0.05 ounces. This allows the scale to yield a very precise weight.

The circular, glass weighing platform measures a bit more than 35 square inches. While this is certainly not the largest weighing area we encountered, it offers enough space to weigh nearly any ingredient you’re likely to include in a home-cooked meal.

In our accuracy and consistency test, this scale performed as good as or better than the best food scales in our review. It scored perfectly for accuracy, giving the exact weight for every item in our control group. It scored a near perfect score in our consistency test only yielding two inconsistent weights out of 25 weighs.

The only area where this scale falls short is in the measurement units it’s capable of displaying. Only grams, ounces and pounds are shown in this food scale. This is fine, since most recipes you’re likely to encounter will show measurements in these units. However, other scales we reviewed have the ability to display weight in kilograms, fluid ounces and milliliters.

The Epicurean is a very handsome, accurate and consistent food scale. Its heavy weight capacity, large weighing area and accurate readings make this scale a useful tool for any foodie, dieter or home chef. This scale’s singular downside is its small selection of weighing measurements to choose from.
