The Oster Large Digital Countertop Oven TSSTTVMNDG-001 serves as a compact and energy-efficient supplement to your conventional oven. This toaster oven lacks some convenience features, but it offers a selection of preset programs and the capacity to cook a variety of foods.
This compact toaster oven offers three basic cooking functions: bake, broil and defrost. The bake function has a temperature range of 150 to 450 degrees Fahrenheit. The broil setting allows you to cook foods at high temperatures, the maximum being 450 degrees. When testing preheat times, we found that it took the oven a little over four minutes to reach 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Regardless of what temperature we set the toaster oven to, it reached the correct temperature in a short time.
It also has a convection bake option that uses a convection fan to cook food quickly and evenly. Additionally, this toaster oven has a defrost setting you can use to thaw food and cook it immediately after. When operating, the toaster oven only uses 1,300 watts, which makes it one of the most energy-efficient options in our lineup.
Weighing 20 pounds, this Oster convection toaster oven is one of the largest we reviewed, but it's still small enough to fit on your counter. It holds up to six slices of bread on its wire rack, and it uses both conventional heating elements and a convection fan. Using the convection bake function, the oven not only cooks food faster, but also more evenly than conventional heating elements do.
This black toaster oven has a display screen and touchpad where you can input temperatures, adjust the timer and select the cooking presets. The touchpad controls make it easy to use, especially for those who have arthritis or other difficulties turning dials. The digital display takes any guesswork out of what the temperature is or how much time is left.
The toaster oven also offers some safety features. With its automatic shut-off, the oven turns off on its own after the timer runs out. When testing the accuracy of the oven's thermostat, we found that the interior of the unit becomes slightly warmer than your set temperature. However, this should have minimal impact on cooking times.
We also tested how safe the exterior of the unit is to touch when the oven is set to 350 degrees. While the top of the unit became fairly hot at 176 degrees Fahrenheit, the sides and handle all remained below 100 degrees. Oster warrants this toaster oven for one year after the purchase date, which is standard.
This Oster countertop convection oven has several convenience features. With seven preset cooking functions, you can bake, convection bake, broil, warm and defrost your food. You can also use the preset toast and pizza buttons, which already have a temperature and time programmed into the toaster for those foods. Depending on what kind of food you make, you can adjust the racks. When using the bake, broil and defrost, the toaster oven has a 90-minute timer, so you can heat foods that require a long bake time.
The toaster oven does not have a nonstick interior; however, it's still easy to remove food and grease using the proper cleaning items specified in the manual. In addition to the cooking rack, this six-slice toaster oven comes with a baking pan and a broiling rack.
