An online background check can either soothe or confirm your fears, so it’s important that the information in a report be accurate and complete. Like most background check companies, eVerify offers a report with information such as name, address history, phone numbers, date of birth, criminal records, sex offender status, property information, relatives, and marriage and divorce records. However, the data in eVerify’s background checks has been mostly inaccurate in our research.
Several of our test subjects couldn’t even be tracked down through eVerify’s website. For those we did find, most of the information provided in the background report was wrong. For example, one of our test subjects, who has been convicted of several crimes, had a rap sheet from eVerify that was completely clean except for an outstanding warrant, and it turned out the warrant wasn’t even valid. We ran a second search for the same person and received a report with nearly 100 criminal cases – almost three times as many as he had actually been involved in. Reports on other test subjects proved to be even less accurate with outdated data. Bankruptcy, tax lien and court judgment history, which is often included in reports from other background check services, is only available through a sister company of eVerify – and for an added cost. Social media profiles are available for viewing as well, as long as the person's profile is set to public. Private profiles don't show up on the report.
It’s easy to start a search through eVerify’s website, but you need at least a first and last name to begin your hunt. If you’re unsure of which state someone lives in, you can search nationwide. After you buy an online background check, it takes only a few seconds to generate the report on the website. The interface for the public records search is organized well, and the reports are generally easy to read. The categories of information are divided into tabs at the top of the screen. If you are familiar with criminal records, you shouldn’t have any issue reading the report. If you aren’t, however, you may need to do some research in order to understand what you’re reading. You can log in to your account to see the dashboard options, which includes your search history. There are no details in this list to indicate which background check is which, so you have to click through a bunch of them to find the right one if you have more than one.
This background check service offers a long list of questions and answers in its FAQs section. If you can’t find the answer to your question listed there, you can contact the customer support team by phone or email.
Background check reports are well organized and easy to read at eVerify, but they may not be clear if you’re not familiar with criminal records. This service is best suited to running a criminal background check on a person, but you still may run into old data or inaccuracies.
