Our Verdict

With low daily rates, an excellent rewards program and the most locations of any car rental service, Enterprise is way out in front when it comes to hiring a car. The useful pick up and carshare services only add to Enterprise's appeal too.

For

  • Thousands of locations
  • Great rewards program
  • Carshare allows rentals by the hour

Against

  • Weekly rental rates are sometimes expensive

With more than 4,600 locations in the U.S. and over 8,000 worldwide, Enterprise has the sheer weight of presence required to make it onto any shortlist of the best car rental sites. Enterprise also has a fleet of more than 1.7 million vehicles ready to go, and so should be able to cater to whatever car rental requirements you might have too. And if you're looking for something a little larger than a family car, or about to move home, Enterprise ranks among the best truck rental for moving services as well.

Enterprise review: Rental options

Whatever you're searching for in a rental car, Enterprise should have a vehicle to suit. There's 20 car types from which to choose, including economy, full size or luxury sedans, alongside 12 classes of SUV, 15 different luxury cars, six types of van and two classes of pick up truck.

One-way car rentals are available if you're planning to go somewhere but won't be able to bring the car back, while long-term car rentals of several weeks, a month or even more are catered for too. Enterprise also offers a pick-up service to get you from a hotel or your home to the rental office to collect your car.

An option that Enterprise alone offers is a carshare service, where membership allows you to go online and book a car for as short as a few hours. All you need to do is hold your membership card to the sensor on the window to unlock it and when you're done, hold your card up again, the car will lock and your rental will end. This service is available in 35 states, Canada and the U.K.

Enterprise review: Pricing

How much you'll pay for renting an Enterprise car will depend on a number of factors, including the car that you choose, the length of rental, and your location. You might also pay more if you're under 25, rent from an airport location, or take out the optional protection products and insurance that are available.

However, within our research Enterprise regularly posted the lowest rates for a daily rental, often $20 less than the average. The only rental company with lower costs was Thrifty, but if you’re only renting a car for a few days, Enterprise is one of the best value options. If you need to rent for a longer time frame, Enterprise’s rates are slightly cheaper than average too. As with most rental companies, the further out you book, the lower the price you pay. If you make a reservation for the day before, be prepared to pay extra. Like all rental companies, Enterprise charges a daily fee for additional drivers - however, at just $10, it stacks up well against its competitors.

Enterprise review: Rewards program

The Enterprise Plus rewards program is free to join and like many rewards programs, it gives points for each dollar you spend on qualified rentals. The points can then be redeemed for free rental days on any available car on any day, with no blackout dates either.

There are multiple tiers to this rewards program, and will become eligible for the Silver level after six rentals, which means you’ll earn 10% bonus points on what you spend and receive one car upgrade each year. After 12 rentals or 40 days, you advance to the Gold level, which gives you a 15% bonus and two annual free car upgrades, while Platinum is the highest level you can reach, a status earned after 24 rentals or 85 days, which provides 20% bonus points and gets you four yearly car upgrades. Enterprise Plus points will only expire if you go three years without at least one qualifying rental.

Even if you’re not a regular renter, there are other benefits to take advantage of as a Plus member. These include the use of an expedited checkout line to get your rental car quicker - a great time saver that’s worth signing up for by itself - while you'll also receive discounts and other offers via email should you choose.

Should you use Enterprise car rental?

Offering more rental locations and vehicle options than anyone else, Enterprise is a tough care rental service to beat. Add in some excellent value when it comes to making a hire, a truly rewarding reward program for regular users, and some convenient extras such as the pick up service, and Enterprise beats the competition hands down.
