Dyna-Glo IR12PMDG-1: Price

This Dyna-Glo model comes in amongst the more expensive space heaters. The infared technology justifies the price tag, but it does have some drawbacks that might put consumers off.

Dyna-Glo IR12PMDG-1: Features

  • Uses Infrared Technology
  • Ideal choice for safe, indoor supplemental heating
Dyna-Glo IR12PMDG-1 Specs

Fuel type: Propane
Ignition: Electronic push button
Dimensions: 20in x 17.32in x 9.49in
Warranty: 1 year

Infrared Technology works by radiating heat to warm objects in the space first - similar to the sun.

It’s an ideal choice for safe, indoor supplemental heating, and its state-of-the-art vent free technology means it doesn’t need a flue or chimney. Also, as these heaters don’t require electricity to operate, they make a cost-efficient choice for supplemental heating, and also come in pretty handy during emergency situations when there’s a loss of power.

The Dyna-Glo IR12PMDG-1 burns with 99.9% efficiency, and operates on propane only.

This model has a built-in oxygen depletion sensor (ODS) that immediately shuts down the heater if carbon monoxide or lack of oxygen is detected in the space, meaning you can safely leave it on while you’re out of the room, or keep it heating the room while you sleep.

Dyna-Glo IR12PMDG-1: Design

  • Fits fairly unobtrusively on the wall
  • Not the most sleek or modern looking of heaters

Its simple design means it fits fairly unobtrusively on the wall, although it’s not the most sleek or modern looking of heaters. You can purchase optional base legs for the Dyna-Glo if you prefer to stand it on the floor rather than put it on the wall, which is a better option if you think you might need to move it from room to room.

Dyna-Glo IR12PMDG-1: Performance

  • Great for use in your home, cabin, or garage
  • Operate efficiently in a space of up to 300 sq ft

These heaters are great for use in your home, cabin, or garage as they operate efficiently in a space of up to 300 sq ft – that’s a decent sized space for such a compact heater.  Its variable control knob offers the most customizable heat settings of space heaters at this price, and if you need more of a kick you can always purchase an optional fan (WHF100) to increase the amount of square footage the heat reaches. Do bear in mind, however, that by adding the fan, the Dyna-Glo IR12PMDG-1 will make a little noise, as all fan heaters do. Even with the fan, it’s still pretty quiet.

As far as efficiency goes, this model burns around a gallon of propane every seven-and-a-half hours.

Dyna-Glo IR12PMDG-1: User reviews

  • Amazon reviews see this model score highly
  • Off switch difficult to reach

Amazon reviews see this model score highly, and those who gave it a low score were referring to a fault rather than something they didn’t like about the heater during use.

Some users were concerned that the switch for the fan is located behind the unit, which makes it somewhat difficult to reach. One user said it was a pain to have to fiddle around the unit, and that she probably wouldn’t buy another because of it. Another complaint is the fact that it doesn’t have a thermostat, but most domestic space heaters don’t have that feature so it’s not unusual in that respect.

One user says he has bought several heaters and uses them throughout the house, finding them very cost-effective and loving the fact that they really do the job of warming up the rooms. He clearly doesn’t find the switch situation tricky, so the switch placement issue is perhaps a matter of opinion.

The fact that this space heater doesn’t have automatic shut-off was an issue for some users, as it meant it often got too hot in the room and they had to turn it off and on again. Another said he heats his entire ground floor with one Dyna-Glo IR12PMDG-1 and he couldn’t be happier with his purchase.

Should I buy the Dyna-Glo IR12PMDG-1?

If you don’t need to run a heater through the night, it’s a great option.
