FreeAuthNet Review

Author by

PROS / PCI compliance is included in your monthly fee.

CONS / It can take up to three days for this processor to clear your account.

VERDICT / FreeAuthNet is admirably up-front about its fees and pricing, but it is more expensive than many of its competitors.

FreeAuthNet is a division of Capital Merchant Solutions. This credit card processor offers interchange-plus pricing only, and though it has higher costs than some of its competitors, it may be a good option if you want to process orders online as well as in person. It includes a payment gateway and a virtual terminal with your merchant account and doesn't require you to open a second account for your online processing.

FreeAuthNet offers interchange-plus pricing, though its rates are slightly higher than average. The interchange markup of 0.20% is better than average and is consistent with the best processors, but the $0.25 per-transaction fee is higher than many of its competitors. With this pricing structure, FreeAuthNet may be a good option if your business has high average ticket sizes but low volume.

At $35, the monthly cost of FreeAuthNet is the highest of any processor we reviewed. The monthly fees of a processor usually cover things such as statements and customer service, and FreeAuthNet's includes PCI compliance as well. There is no monthly minimum. Still, with the high monthly fee, this processor may be best for an established business.

Most processors require you to open an additional merchant account if you want to process online in addition to in person, but FreeAuthNet does not. It charges a $19.99 gateway setup fee and a monthly $19.99 gateway access fee.

We value processors that are transparent and consistent with the information they present online and in our testers' many interactions with them by phone and email. FreeAuthNet was one of the few processors to receive 100% on our transparency score.

An account with FreeAuthNet can take longer to set up than one with most of the processors we reviewed. Two or fewer days is the standard amount of time that most of the processors we reviewed take to set up an account. FreeAuthNet can take up to four days to set up your account.

FreeAuthNet doesn't require you to sign a long-term contract. Your account is provided on a month-to-month basis, and there is no early termination fee if you decide to cancel your account.

This credit card processor offers high-quality customer service, with reps that patiently answered our questions and followed up with answers to the questions that they didn't have immediate answers for. FreeAuthNet offers a dedicated account rep but doesn't provide 24/7 phone support or live chat.

FreeAuthNet is a credit card processer that may be best suited to merchants with low volume and high average-tickets and who sell online as well as in a retail setting. This company is very transparent and posts its interchange-plus pricing and fees prominently on its website. However, it charges a high monthly fee and lacks 24/7 phone support.
