The Gateway One ZX all-in-one PC series is a solid value for workaday business tasks, even if it might not breathe enough fire for the most extreme gamers. The configuration that we are describing runs the Intel Core i3, which is an entry level, low end, dual-core processor that is an improvement over the Core 2 series CPU (central processing unit) generation that it replaces.
This computer's operating system is Windows 7 Home Premium. Yes, it is the 64-bit version. The CPU is the dual-core i3-2100 running at 3.10GHz. The i3 has 3MB of cache onboard and supports hyper-threading, which is a technique that lets a single CPU act as if it were multiple CPUs. Standard memory is 4GB of RAM (random access memory) and 8GB is optional.
The Gateway One ZX all-in-one PC has one hard drive, and boy, what a big one it is: 1TB. How big is that? Well, if we assume that one high-quality photo in JPEG format is, say, 1.6MB, then a 1TB hard drive could store 625,000 photos. In other words, you could take a high-quality picture of every resident in the entire state of Vermont and the collection would fit inside the Gateway One ZX all-in-one PC.
Some software is included to get you started. There is Microsoft Office Starter, a reduced functionality Word and Excel package that will subject you to advertising unless you buy Office 2010. Gateway also throws in the Bing Bar and Windows Live Essentials.
Let us count the many ways of getting information in and out of a Gateway One ZX all-in-one PC:
Wireless keyboard and mouse
Eight USB 2.0 ports
A 23-inch touchscreen (1920 x 1080)
Optical DVD drive
A 5-watt integrated stereo speaker system
Four memory slots
Memory card reader
Help & Support
The Gateway One ZX has a one-year warranty. The manufacturer supports customers via toll-free telephone, email or online chat.
The Gateway One ZX6961 is an all-in-one desktop that is competent and affordable. It has a large touchscreen that is easy to use and fun. It has decent performance for all but the most extreme applications, and a gargantuan hard drive.
The chassis is black and glossy, but the design prevents you from storing the keyboard underneath. A wireless keyboard and mouse reduces clutter, as does the internal power supply. It has as many USB 2.0 ports as an octopus has legs. However, it doesn't have any of the faster USB 3.0 ports. Blu-ray is not an option. There are no eSATA ports for external expansion. This computer is a bit thicker than other all-in-one PCs, but then again, you can buy it with a thinner wallet.
