In this day and age, it seems impossible to live without electronic devices, and powerful, versatile machines like the HP ENVY 750 can help you get your work done, access social media and watch hours of streamed video content. It has the fastest, most powerful processor of any computer we reviewed and the most memory and storage, as well.
One of the reasons the HP ENVY 750 is the best home computer in our review is its processor. Built around a fourth-generation Intel i5-4690K 3.5GHz processor, this machine can handle intensive programs, video streaming, gaming and data-heavy webpages. The CPU received a PassMark score of 7,703 – the highest of any home computer we reviewed. This score comes from CPUBenchmark.net, a third-party evaluation site, and shows that the device is plenty capable of handling whatever you throw at it. While processors with scores over 5,000 are considered good, computers with processors that score over 7,500 are great for those who may use their computers more heavily.
The computer produces decent graphics with its Intel HD Graphics 530 graphics card setup in the base model, though this is far from the most powerful graphics card setup. If you have any interest in watching high-quality video or playing games, there’s a lot left to be desired with the Intel 530 card. Fortunately, if you purchase this system directly from the manufacturer, you can opt for a more powerful graphics card, up to a 6GB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980Ti.
It comes with high-definition Bang & Olufsen audio, allowing you to enjoy powerful audio in a variety of setups. It has a versatile SuperMulti DVD/CD drive, that can read and write to and from many formats, including DVD-RAM, CD-R/RW, DVD-R/RW, DVD+R/RW and double-layer DVD.
Memory & Storage
This desktop PC has 12GB of DDR3 RAM, which is more than enough to keep it running smoothly. Whether you’re typing up a simple email or multitasking between multiple programs and webpages, the ENVY 750 can handle it without slowing down. A home computer only needs 4GB of memory for light use or 8GB for multitasking – having 12GB greatly reduces slowdown or performance problems and is necessary for those who have a lot to do, whether online or off.
One of the computer’s best features is its included 2TB hard drive, which is large enough to store plenty of music, photos, videos, documents and other files for everyone in your family. Most of the other computers in our review only have 1TB or 500GB hard drives, which aren’t as good of options for families or individuals who frequently download or save files. If you purchase it from the manufacturer, you can upgrade your storage to a 3TB hard drive and up to a 512GB solid-state drive.
Unlike most other PC computers, this one has two HDMI outputs, so you can connect to a high-definition TV or up to three monitors. Additionally, it has a DVI port for monitor connection, if you prefer. You can connect more peripherals and accessories than with other computers because it comes with four USB 3.0 ports for fast data transfers.
The tower allows you to connect to a Wireless-AC router, so it doesn’t have to be tethered with an Ethernet cord, though you can also use the 10/100Base-T Ethernet LAN port if you choose. It also has Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity you can use to connect your computer to wireless devices and accessories.
Help & Support
HP backs this computer with a one-year limited hardware warranty for parts and labor. During this period, you have free access to HP’s phone-based customer support, which connects you to a representative to ask questions and find solutions to problems. You can pay a little more to extend that warranty – and the accompanying free phone support – up to three years. It also offers customer support via live chat and email, or you can browse through the support forums and other informational resources available to you on HP’s website.
As a bonus, the machine also comes with a 30-day trial of McAfee LiveSafe software. It is ready to use out of the box and comes with Windows 10 Home preinstalled. The tower has a clean, streamlined look with a brushed metal finish on the front and black on the sides, so it blends in with other electronics and your room’s decor.
If you’re a power user or your family members like to regularly use the computer, the HP ENVY 750 is a great option and one of the most powerful, and it can keep up with your busy lives. It has the fastest processor of any computer we reviewed, as well as the most memory and largest storage capacity. You have great control over which devices and peripherals you connect, it and has multiple warranty and support options.
