When considering a business laptop, it can be difficult to find the proper balance between power and portability. It is rare to find a device that offers strong processing speeds alongside a lengthy battery life and low weight. The Asus B23E business laptop has more than enough to get the job done. Unfortunately, that power comes at the expense of several other key areas.
The Asus B23E business laptop has a standard 14.1-inch display with a 1366 x 768 resolution, with options for a 12.5-inch or 15.6-inch screen. This device features a 2-megapixel HD webcam along with Altec Lansing speakers, and has a fingerprint sensor. Unfortunately, one of the biggest drawbacks to this business laptop is its dismal four-hour battery life. It is also a bit heavy, weighing in at 5.5 pounds.
The performance of this device is impressive, though you can easily upgrade if you need even more power. The processor is an Intel i5-2520M with speeds up to 2.5GHz. This processor will easily handle your day-to-day business needs, but if you need more juice, you can upgrade to an Intel i7-2620M processor with speeds up to 3.2GHz. Alongside this powerful processor is an AMD Radeon 6470M graphics card.
For memory and storage, the Asus B23E leaves a bit to be desired. This Asus business laptop comes standard equipped with 4GB of RAM, which you can upgrade up to 8GB. The hard drive has 500GB of space and can be upgraded to 750GB, or you can opt for up to a 160GB solid-state drive. While these specs are decent, 8GB of RAM will improve the performance of your machine and has come to be expected on a business laptop. The Asus B23E does well to include this as an upgradeable option, along with the larger hard drive.
The Asus B23E is in the middle of the pack as far as its connectivity is concerned. This business laptop has two USB 2.0 ports and one USB 3.0 port. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are enabled on the standard model, along with an SD card reader. While it was nice to see both VGA and HDMI ports on this device, we were disappointed in the optical drive's lack of functionality, as it only supports disc reading and cannot be upgraded to a writeable drive. Furthermore, there is no Blu-ray option available on this machine.
Asus support offers enough to get you out of a jam if you run into an issue with your new business laptop. The one-year warranty offers phone, email and live chat support. If you're on the go and need to talk to someone immediately, these features allow for ease of communication even if you lack an internet connection. We would have liked to see a few more online resources on the Asus website such as a support forum or knowledgebase, but the live chat feature should suffice for any direct online questions.
While certainly not a top-of-the-line series, the Asus B23E business laptop is a solid choice. It features a powerful processor and good connectivity options, although both of these areas could see some improvement. The abysmal four-hour battery life is unfortunate, and we would have liked to see it come with a few more connectivity options. However, looking past these flaws, you'll be able to get your work done easily on the go with the Asus B23E.
