Toughbook 5 Series Visit Site

The Panasonic Toughbook 5 Series consists of semi-rugged laptops. Small size and low weight make the Toughbook 5 Series an appealing option for tight situations. Customization options and a good warranty sweeten the deal.

First and foremost, the whole point of a rugged laptop is its durability. While semi-rugged laptops aren’t quite as durable as fully rugged models, they’re still much tougher than regular laptops. The Toughbook 5 Series is MIL-STD 810G certified, meaning it can survive 3-foot drops, shock, vibration, sand, dust, altitude changes and extreme temperatures. It has IP51 certification, which means it's dust-resistant and somewhat water-resistant.

The fact that Panasonic was able to make a 10.7 x 13.6-inch notebook computer so durable is impressive. And it weighs in at close to 4 pounds, making it one of the lightest rugged laptops on the market.

While not entirely dustproof, the Toughbook 5 Series still protects its core components from external intrusions. It can handle dusty and less-than-ideal air conditions much better than an off-the-shelf unit. However, this is hardly a water-resistant laptop. It can repel small amounts of water dripping from above, but any more than that – or from a different direction – and you’ll run into problems. Still, this is a much more rugged laptop than its small size might suggest.

The Toughbook 5 Series wasn’t originally designed for durability. Instead, it went through a ruggedization process that added a magnesium alloy case, shock-mounted storage drive, hard drive heater and other extras.

With a 14-inch display, you get a fair amount of visual real estate. Resolutions range from 1366 x 768 to 1920 x 1080, with a brightness of 1000 nits. That’s bright enough to easily view outdoors. In fact, the Toughbook 5 Series’ display is treated with both anti-reflective and anti-glare coatings. You can opt for the multi-touch screen, which is nice to have when you don’t want to deal with a mouse or trackpad. The 87-key keyboard is backlit, which makes working in poor lighting easier.

Unfortunately, the Toughbook 5 Series limits you to a single Intel CPU. While it’s a capable processor, having more options would allow for finer tuning the laptop to your needs. Other components have more variety. You can choose RAM from 4GB up to 16GB and pick between an HDD or SSD of varying capacities. There’s enough room to add a second HDD or SSD if you need to. This allows you to have both an SSD and HDD, optimizing speed and storage space. All storage drives come with heaters that kick on in cold conditions.

For such a small laptop, the Toughbook 5 Series has very strong wireless communications. The built-in dual-band wireless AC is speedy, and the Bluetooth (v4.1) adds considerable utility. But the optional add-ons are the most attractive part. You can get a dedicated GPS or contactless SmartCard/NFC reader. Both of those are incredibly useful in the right situations. You can also add 4G LTE through multiple carriers. Finally, the optional dual high-gain antenna passthrough boosts both Wi-Fi and mobile signals.

The Panasonic Toughbook 5 Series is one the best rugged laptops on the market if you need something that’s small and lightweight. The number of customization options and the laptop’s durability make the Toughbook 5 Series worth considering.
