Pros / The CS6719 is easy to set up.

Cons / It doesn’t have an answering machine.

Verdict / The VTech CS6719 is a great buy if you want an inexpensive, straightforward phone.

The VTech CS6719’s strength lies in its simplicity. You can plug it in and start using it immediately, without configuring a bunch of settings and features. While it’s more basic than other models we reviewed, it’s easy to make and answer calls with this cordless phone.

The CS6719 is the best basic phone we tested. It’s compact and simple but still includes all the standard features. In our tests, it took the battery over seven hours to charge from empty to full, and it sat idle off the base for 31 hours before it died, which is longer than most other phones. The Panasonic TGE-433B lasts a bit longer, but this VTech model’s standby time is also acceptable.

It was a breeze to set up the VTech CS6719. We set the time and date, added numbers to its directory, adjusted the volume and ring tones, and turned off key tones in less than five minutes. Of course, you could simply plug it in and start using it immediately without customizing it. Though we read through the instruction manual for each cordless phone we tested, most people could probably skip this step. The menu is clearly labeled, and all the buttons make sense, so there isn’t much else to fiddle with.

The base has a light that turns on when you use the phone and a handset-locator button. There isn’t an answering machine attached to this phone system, but if you have voicemail through your phone company, you can access it from the handset. It also doesn’t have backup power, so you can’t use it during a power outage.

The CS6719’s handset is small and lightweight, with a green backlit display and well-defined buttons. It doesn’t have a headset jack, though it does support full-duplex speakerphone, which allows you to speak and hear the other side simultaneously. You can connect up to five handsets to the phone system using one phone jack.

Though not as packed with features as the Panasonic KX-TG7875S, the VTech CS6719 includes speed dial, a 50-entry phone book directory, a caller ID display and a variety of ring tones. You can also use the handsets as intercoms to talk to people in different rooms.

The VTech CS6719’s ease of use and budget-friendly price make it a good choice for value shoppers and those who want a simple plug-and-play device. It’s compact and includes just enough customizable settings to make it super easy to use.
