The design of this camera may be simple, but simplicity does not mean inadequate by any means. The Olympus E-620 is considered one of the top 10 entry-level DSLR cameras due to its excellent feature list and technology.
When you pick up your photos from your local digital photo-printing center and realize that every shot is either blurry or ill lit, you may feel frustration. Well, thanks to this DSLR camera, there is no need to ever feel that way again. The Olympus E-620 has a Live sensor and TruePic III+ technology that, with 12.3 megapixels, ensures you get a clear, crisp and vibrantly colored image every time.
For added assurance, this DSLR camera employs a Face Detection feature that decreases the chance of blurry subjects in your images. This technology differentiates between people and the background, tracking up to eight faces so you get the perfect shot of all your friends and family every time.
Photography is an art, so why not add additional artistic touches for added flare? The DSLR camera has six artistic filters including Pop Art, Grainy Film, Soft Focus, Pale, Light Color and Light Tone. Each filter adds life and vibrancy to your images in Live mode.
Once you have a feel for your DSLR camera, there are a few features we think you should try. The Multiple Exposure function allows you to create visually dynamic images to really enhance your landscape, night shots or portraits. The feature essentially enables you to shoot two shots on the same frame and then combine them. This feature has the added functionality of shooting up to three different shots and then overlaying them on top of each other to create a seamless image.
With the technology that this DSLR camera employees, your photos will be clear, crisp and beautiful, but there is no controlling dust and particles that may land on your lens. These particles will also show up on your printed images. Annoying, yes, but the Olympus E-620 camera has it covered. With its Dust Reduction System, Olympus uses its Supersonic Wave Filter that sends out a vibration 30,000 times per second. Goodbye dust!
Although this entry-level DSLR camera has a great features list, you might miss the inclusion of HD movie capabilities and an HDMI connection. We wish that Olympus had included these features.
Because the user manual is 156 pages, you might think that you will never learn how to work this camera, complete with all its seemingly overwhelming features and functions. Do not fear, entry-level photographers, for the user manual will actually become your best friend as you work together to better understand your DSLR camera. If you choose, the Olympus E-620 can be your go-to point-and-shoot camera. The Olympus E-620 DSLR camera has seven-point twin cross automatic focus capabilities that allow you to quickly and easily focus on your target vertically and horizontally.
Although this DSLR camera has a smaller monitor than average, at 2.7 inches, we still love that it has the ability to flip out from its center position and swivel 270 degrees, so you have the ultimate control and versatility to capture stunning shots.
The Olympus E-620 camera has a single-lens system with a single-lens reflex viewfinder and a built-in pop-up flash. Although there is a pop-up flash, however, you are still able to use any type of flash and attach it to the hot shoe located on top of the camera.
At first glance, the front of the camera looks a tad drab, but upon further investigation, you will notice the self-timer/remote-control lamp positioned in the bottom left corner, along with the white-balance sensor and lens-release button. The lens-release button, appropriately named, allows you to easily detach your lens and quickly attach a different one to suit your photographic needs. Flip the camera and the plain façade makes way for the back of this DSLR beauty.
The Olympus E-620 DSLR camera uses a rechargeable lithium-ion battery and accepts both an SD memory card and an xD Picture Card.
The Olympus instruction manual is 156 pages of pure information, which we love. As an entry-level photographer, you will cling to this instruction manual because it is an excellent resource for you to read and reference to fully understand your DSLR camera. Unlike many other digital SLR camera sites that have a mass FAQs section for their DSLR cameras, the Olympus DSLR camera site has an E-620-specific FAQs section. You are also able to contact Olympus customer service by telephone or an online email form.
The Olympus E-620 is a great entry-level DSLR camera with a long list of features including its Multiple Exposure function, swivel screen and face-detection technology. We were disappointed that this DSLR camera does not have HD movie capabilities, however.
