Here's everything you need to know about the Frigidaire Gallery FGRC124WAE Cool Connect. We've researched the latest window air conditioners, asked the experts, and sifted through thousands of specs, features and user reviews to find the best window air conditioners around.

The Frigidaire Gallery FGRC124WAE Cool Connect window air conditioner redefines what one of these beasts can look like – at last there is a genuinely attractive unit for your window.

But this isn't all about looks, it's smart too. Thanks to Wi-Fi connectivity this is supported by an app allowing you to control it from anywhere. You can even control it using your voice with Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant.

The Frigidaire Gallery FGRC124WAE is a 12,000 BTU model meaning there's plenty of power – enough for a 350 square foot room, no problem. But, thanks to Energy Star efficiency, it'll also save you money on your energy bills.

Air ionizer filtering, easy installation, quick cooling, sleep mode and scheduling all make this a really impressive air conditioner.

So is this designer window air conditioner the one for you? Read on to find out.

  • LED display
  • Mesh front
  • Sleek remote

The Frigidaire Gallery FGRC124WAE is a fine looking air conditioner. That's not something we get to say often. But gone are the ugly grills you usually expect, replaced by a modern mesh finish that actually enhances the look of a room. This is topped by a useful and clear LED display that shows you the temperature you're at or are going for in the room.

Even the remote control is well designed. This is slim and sleek with an all white finish and flush touch sensitive buttons to control the unit. It's slim enough to slip into a pocket without you even noticing it's there. Just don't lose it. That said, even if you do, everything is controlled via the smart app anyway but more on that below.

On the technical side, the louvres have been designed to slant which means airflow is directed upwards in a circular motion to quickly and evenly cool the entire room.

The installation kit comes with insulated side panels and an extra long power cable so you shouldn't even need an extension. You also get a clean air ionizer and mesh filter as part of the build but more on that in the features section below.

  • Smart Wi-Fi controls
  • Ionizer and mesh filter
  • Sleep mode

The Frigidaire Gallery FGRC124WAE is crammed with features. All of these are controlled using the remote control or the useful smart app. This means you can set the temperature when on your way home so you arrive back to a cool living space – but without the cost of leaving air con on all day, or on a timer you might not be back for. This is also smart assistant controlled so you can get it up and running in the dining room while you make dinner in the kitchen by simply telling Alexa or Google Assistant to do it.

Sleep mode is a nice feature which will slowly allow the room temperature to creep up a few degrees during the night. This allows it to offer the most quiet and energy efficient night while still keeping you cool enough to sleep comfortably.

The ionizer and mesh filter work in conjunction to give you the cleanest air possible. The ionizer is an electronic air purifier which works to remove pollen and impurities from the air. The mesh filter is antibacterial and conveniently can be removed to be washed.

As you'd imagine, the fan is multi speed. But with a unit as smart as this you'll likely just set the temperature and let it work out the rest – unless you're in a hurry to get to cold fast without a thought about energy efficiency.

  • Fast cooling
  • Modest noise level

The Frigidaire Gallery FGRC124WAE is a big unit with a whopping 12,000 BTU of power. Despite all that grunt it does manage to remain relatively quiet. It's not the quietest out there but then it does get the room cool fast. It can then lower power to run more quietly. When it counts, at night, you can use Sleep mode for much quieter running if you like. Also a nice feature to have if you're watching a movie and want silence.

The app runs well although there are odd glitches. Usually there are updates that fix these issues though so it's not a big deal really – just worth a mention. The app works especially well for turning on when you're out of the home. This applies to voice controls too, which work perfectly.

Customer care is great so you can rest easy knowing that if you were to run into issues, you should be looked after.

The installation is easy for a unit of this size which is great for anyone hoping to do it themselves rather than paying someone to install this.

If you want to make a 350 foot room, or multiple rooms, nice and cool fast – while looking great – then this is the machine for the job. It's ideal for anyone wanting to turn on A/C on their way home using their smartphone. It's also great for anyone that needs a quiet night mode for sleeping while staying cool.

For anyone that doesn't need smart controls or good looks there are cheaper options out there.

The Frigidaire Gallery FGRC124WAE is a very good looking and efficient air conditioner that brings smart controls and energy efficiency to the home at a reasonable price, for what you get. The LED display is helpful and the remote is great but it's the Sleep mode and filter functions we love.

This offers lots of power and does so in a great looking package at a decent price point – both up front and in long term running costs.
