The LG LP1017WSR portable air conditioner is designed to deal with hot and sticky situations. Designed to cool rooms up to 300 square feet, it includes dehumidifying functionality that is able to remove up to 2.45 pints of water per hour from the air. Alternatively, the collected water can also be used to cool the device, which causes it to evaporate back into the atmosphere.

There’s no need to leave your seat to change the temperature, mode or fan speed. As although they can be controlled on the unit itself, you can also use the LCD remote control. The LG LP1017WSR needs to be placed close to a window to allow its exhaust pipe to be fitted to an opening, so the hot air can be removed.

The LG LP1017WSR has a 10,200 BTU (ASHRAE) cooling rating. As a portable unit, it also lists the 2017 DOE standard rating of 6,500 BTU and delivers a similar performance to Toshiba RAC-PD1011CRU, but not quite a match for the Frigidaire Gallery FGPC1244T1. It features a programmable 24-hour timer, so you can set the device to turn on and off, even when you’re not home.

There are two fan speeds as well as a choice of three modes. Cool operates the air compressor and uses the auto evaporation mode to avoid water collection. Dry uses the dehumidifying function in addition to cooling and the fan mode turns off the cooling and just circulates the air.

The unit comes with a window installation kit, which allows the output hose to remove the hot air from the room, by fitting snuggly into the window. It also features a water collection tank, to collect the water when in dehumidifying mode, and a water output port that can be connected to a drain.

LG LP1017WSR review: Performance

Though not the largest or most powerful air conditioner on the market, most agree that this is one of the best performing units for the money. It has gained top marks in professional reviews and, overall, has a high satisfaction from users.

LG LP1017WSR review: User reviews

This LG model gets a 4.1-star rating and an 80 percent approval rating from over 1,200 reviews on the Home Depot site. Users praise the air conditioner’s build quality and effectiveness. However, for rooms larger than 250 square feet, performance is reduced.

Many users comment that the unit can be noisy when the compressor is working. There are also some complaints that the water collection tray is small, and a water hose isn’t included in the box, making it necessary to empty regularly when used in dry mode. Users also criticize the rather flimsy exhaust attachments for the window.

Should I buy the LG LP1017WSR?

The LG LP1017WSR is a great supplement to a home air conditioning system and is ideal for quickly cooling those less ventilated rooms. It also serves well for garages, dens or as an emergency backup unit. With a little preparation time to attach the exhaust hose this is a handy little unit that is certainly worth the money.
