The LG LT1016CER is a thru wall air conditioner that focuses more on function and less on looks. The exterior can feel a little cheap in areas and it doesn’t have a wide range of functionality, but it does offer good cooling power in an affordable price bracket. The output is strong enough to effectively cool rooms up to 450 square feet in size, which should be enough for most homes.

It is a fairly simplistic unit, especially when compared to other models in our round up of the best thru wall air conditioners, like the Whirlpool WHAT142-2AW thru wall air conditioner, which has a wider range of features. However, it is still a good thru wall air conditioner that is effective and relatively affordable, while having enough features to avoid being a basic unit.

LG LT1016CER: Pricing and value

At $550, the LG LT1016CER thru wall air conditioner sits towards the middle of the market, although, there are quite a few units from other manufacturers that sit around this price point. It is more expensive than our budget pick, the Impecca ITAC10-KSA21 thru wall air conditioner, but only by about $70, and the LG LT1016CER is only $50 more than the Koldfront WTC8001W thru wall air conditioner, but it does have more power so it can cover larger rooms than the Koldfront.

While it might not have as many features as the Whirlpool WHAT142-2AW, the LG LT1016CER does have a range of cooling and fan speeds, and it’s also Energy Star qualified, which means it has been designed with energy-efficiency in mind so monthly energy bills should be lower than with some other units. Unfortunately, it doesn’t feel quite as durable as units from competitors though.

LG LT1016CER: Features

The LG LT1016CER is a mid-range wall air conditioner that offers cooling and dehumidification in an Energy Star certified unit. Dry mode allows the LG LT1016CER to remove moisture from the air it outputs, managing to remove up to 2.9 pints of water in an hour, even more than some standard dehumidifiers.

When it comes to customizing your airflow, you have the choice of three cooling speeds and the four-way air deflection technique utilized by this unit means you can direct the airflow too. There’s no heating functionality, similarly priced models like the Koldfront WTC8001W thru wall air conditioner often offer supplementary heating functionality that’s designed to be used in conjunction with other heat sources, but the Koldfront does have a lower cooling power output.

The LG LT1016CER has a 24-hour timer too, so you can schedule a cooling program to suit you. Or you can just use the included remote to adjust settings from a distance.

While the exterior may feel a little cheap in places and the one-year parts and labor warranty is on the short-side, it does utilize anti-corrosion technology to lengthen the lifespan of the unit. The LG patented Gold Fin coating provides a protective shield so the unit keeps cooling longer.

The LG LT1016CER utilizes a universal fit for the sleeve structure of the unit, so it’s quick and easy to install.

LG LT1016CER: User reviews

Overall, users really like the LG LT1016CER thru wall air conditioner, scoring it an average of 4.2 out of five on Amazon. Positive reviews noted that it had no problem effectively cooling and dehumidifying their home spaces. A number of reviews also noted that they fitted it quickly and easily, and liked that it came with insulation foam for a better fit, although the odd review noted that they would have liked clearer installation instructions in the manual.

Less positive reviews commented that the unit was noisy and felt flimsy. A few users also had problems with the unit breaking down after a year or so of usage.

Should you buy the LG LT1016CER?

The LG LT1016CER is a good choice for anyone looking for a unit that can effectively cool in an energy-efficient way, without splashing out on a premium model. It is short of a few features and isn’t as durable as other models, so if you’re looking for something that can cool your home for many summers to come, a pricier model may be a better investment. At $630, the Whirlpool WHAT142-2AW thru wall air conditioner is more expensive than the LG LT1016CER, but it has a good range of features and is more durable to boot.
