The NewAir AB-1200 is designed specifically for chilling canned drinks. This mini refrigerator makes good of use of its 3.4-cubic-foot interior – it can hold up to 126 cans, and you can remove any of its five racks to create space for bottled water. On the bottom, there is a metal gate to keep drinks from spilling out when you open the fridge. The ceiling slopes slightly from the front to the back, making it approximately a half inch shorter at the back. If you need a large multi-purpose mini fridge, take a look at the Magic Chef MCBR440S2.
The AB-1200 is made of stainless steel and has a glass door. Unlike many of the mini fridges we reviewed, it has interior LED lighting, so it’s a good option for a dim room such as a home theater room. This is a freestanding drink fridge, and the manufacturer doesn’t recommend building it into a counter because it has a rear vent. Also, there is a drip pan on the back you need to empty occasionally.
You can adjust the temperature between 34 degrees and 64 degrees Fahrenheit using a seven-setting dial control. It doesn’t have a freezer and can’t reach temperatures low enough to serve as one. In theory, you can use this fridge for snacks, but a multi-use fridge would be a better fit.
In addition to being the most expensive fridge we reviewed, all of the AB-1200’s cooling power comes at a price. It costs almost twice as much to power as the other mini fridges we reviewed – an estimated $54 a year.
