- Object Library
- Sample Plans
To help you envision what might look great in your remodeled or rebuilt new rooms, you can draw on Punch's generous object library. It is filled with more than 4,700 objects, including a substantial array of bathroom fixtures, appliances, doors, windows, light fixtures, furniture and more, all in a wide range of styles. This is enough objects to get you by, but if you want a comprehensive selection, consider our top pick - Virtual Architect Ultimate, with more than 7,500 objects.
Positioning them is easy with this home interior application's drag-and-drop capability and, if for some reason, what you've chosen just doesn't look right or fit in, you can edit it out and replace it with something else.
Actual rebuilding is easy, too, with designers for such things windows, floors, cabinets, fireplaces and more. Along with choosing what would work best for your renewed interior, you can create a QuickPalette filled with all the colors and materials you might want to use – from flooring to ceiling paint. You apply them to the room with just a mouse click.
The inclusion of landscaping tools is a nice bonus. We looked specifically for interior design programs, but now that most folks consider their decks and porches extensions of their homes, it makes sense to get a program that allows you to plan for both indoor and outdoor living space. Even if you are doing an interiors project only, you may want to redo some landscaping later on, and this product offers that.
There are some name brands available with Punch Home & Landscape Design Premium, but not as many as we saw with some competitors. Every project does not need a name-brand paint color or flooring style, though, and usually elements of an interior design project can be replicated in many different brands.
Planning & Construction
The QuickStart option helps you get up to speed on creating a floor plan fast, and you can also start with predrawn house plans that come with the software. You can also scan in floor plans that you have sketched out and trace them in the program. You can be very precise as you create your new floor plan or recreate your existing one. As you draw or resize rooms, the automatic dimensioning tool gives you exact measurements that evolve as you move walls, windows and doors.
You can track with a blueprint or plan but not with an image. When you import an image, it remains as a background in 3D mode, which is helpful for reference purposes if you decide to redo it in 2D. However, if you opt to do that, you must do it manually, and it will take a few more steps, unlike some home interior software applications that do that automatically.
Your project may be something as simple as switching out wall and floor coverings, but we like that Punch Home & Landscape Design Premium has the more practical elements covered, too. If you are going to be moving walls and redoing the electric, you can incorporate those important elements into your planning with this software. You can even do such things as generate new stairways where you need them or create curved walls rather than the conventional straight walls to add a special flair to your new room.
Once you recreate a room on screen, you can view it from a 2D or 3D perspective and even virtually walk through it. You can look at 2D and 3D views at the same time. You also get such things as dollhouse views, where the roof is erased from your virtual home. Wireframe and glass views, where the walls of your space appear to be transparent, also help give you an idea of how much space everything will occupy.
The helpful room estimating tool takes into account the cost of drywall, ceiling fans, paint and other materials. With this tool, you can keep within your budget for materials and have a reasonably good understanding of how much your project will cost.
This application is compatible with CAD software, so once you've completed your ideal room, you can export it in DXE or DWG formats. The abundance of useful, but rather sophisticated tools included in the Punch software means you'll need to take some time to learn how to use it, but the effort will be worth it when you end up with the perfect interior for your home.
