PROS / This convert PDF software creates interactive forms from templates or from scratch.
CONS / PDF Suite does not redact text.
VERDICT / While it lacks some advanced features, PDF Suite Professional is a good value if you have basic PDF conversion and editing needs and want to create fillable forms.
PDF Suite Professional convert PDF software has multimedia capability, can work with six languages and has strong form-building capability. Even though it cannot do some advanced tasks, like Bates numbering or text redaction, it nonetheless creates professional PDFs.
You can convert PDFs from the software or with the print to PDF button on your other programs. The OCR technology lets you convert scanned documents into text files you can edit and search. It can batch convert multiple files at once and combine as needed. In addition to combining PDFs, this software lets you add sound and video files, features not every PDF conversion software we reviewed had.
While most PDF software is not intended to do full editing, it was frustrating to see that PDF Suite lacked even basic text-manipulation options, like centering text, especially since when you paste over copied text, it does not keep the formatting. It has numerous fonts, but not all the ones you find in current software; therefore, you may have to change your fonts if you are editing something within the program itself. You can edit and manipulate the size and appearance of images with features like cropping. You can also add tables, special characters and subscripted type.
You can build forms easily with this software. PDF Suite has templates you can adapt, or you can build your own. A nice feature is the Add Buttons tool, which lets you add a button to your form to make it easy for the reader to email the form or to print it by clicking a button.
To support document reviews and collaboration, PDF Suite provides the usual convert PDF software markup tools, including a pencil, a highlighter, watermarks and sticky notes. For securing and restricting access to documents, PDF Suite provides 256-bit password encryption and supports digital signatures. However, it does not redact text or do Bates numbering, features that could be important when dealing with legal or other sensitive documents.
You can convert PDFs to Word, Office and image formats. In addition, this PDF conversion program can optimize PDFs for uploading to a website, viewing on a mobile device or archiving.
The user guide is online and accessible from the software. The online FAQs are sparse and do not contain much about working the software itself. Although the website claims extensive phone support in English and French, when we called, we were told phone support was for installation only. You can email questions to tech support, however. PDF Suite says it can provide email support in six languages.
While PDF Suite Professional has several key features in common with the best convert PDF software choices, it lacks many of the tools that we found beneficial in the top-ranked applications. PDF Suite Professional does have an advantage in its multimedia capability and form templates. If those are your needs and you'd like a basic program without many extras, PDF Suite is worth considering.
