The Nvidia GeForce GTX 670 is a high-end graphics card that used to be one of the best graphics cards on the market. It's now starting to show its age. This card uses the GK104 GPU chip, the same chip the GTX 680 uses. The GK104 utilizes Nvidia's Kepler architecture, the successor to the Fermi technology used to power the previous generation of GTX graphics cards. Despite being somewhat dated, this card still fares respectably in our graphics card comparison.

Kepler architecture focuses on performance per watt, doing twice the amount of work as the previous Fermi chips while requiring less power. Kepler is also designed to give you maximum performance in DirectX 11 applications. The GTX 670 runs at a base clock speed of 915MHz and at 980MHz boosted, 41 percent faster than its predecessor. It has 1,344 available CUDA cores for processing and a memory bandwidth of 192GB per second, giving you a smooth, fast flow of data. You can also overclock the card to speeds above 1GHz, giving you incredibly fast processing and consistently high frame rates.

Like all high-end Nvidia graphics cards, the GTX 670 supports the PhysX engine and 3D Vision. With Nvidia's Surround feature, you can connect up to four monitors to expand your view and give you an immersive graphics experience. The GTX 670 not only supports SLI, but also allows you to connect up to three of these powerful cards in an SLI configuration to create a multi-card graphics monster.

The GTX 670 has remarkably low power consumption for a high-end graphics card, only requiring a 500-watt power supply and drawing a maximum of 170 watts. This is a dramatic improvement over its predecessor, which required a 550-watt minimum power supply and drew a maximum of 219 watts. These lower power ratings are due in part to the more efficient Kepler architecture, giving you more processing for less. However, the card can be noisy, because the fans work hard to keep it cool, and its long design means you need more room for it than you do for the best graphics cards.


The Nvidia GeForce GTX 670 is a powerful graphics card, even if it's starting to show its age. It has a couple of flaws, such as being a bit older and the fan being somewhat noisy. However, the GTX 670's processing strength and the option to triple-link with SLI will help you unlock your computer's graphics potential.
