Editor's Note: This review has been removed from our side-by-side comparison because it no longer ranks as a top 10 product. The original review is below, but check out our current top 10 about Baby Sound Machines here.
The Dexbaby Sound Sleeper baby sound machine comes with 10 built-in sound options and up to 34 sound combinations. There's also an on and off switch, a timer, a headphone jack, and a lifetime warranty.
Whether you're getting your newborn settled into a sleep routine or have a fussy toddler, this white noise machine can help your baby sleep at bedtime and naptime. Unlike with other sound machines for babies on the market, you can combine the sounds, eliminating the continual loop present in other sound machines.
This machine offers three sound modes: single, combine and random. In the single mode, there are 10 different sounds to choose from that will play continuously. In the combine mode, you can combine the 10 sounds in specific ways by selecting from any of the six primary sounds and then adding one of the four secondary or background noises. The random mode allows you to choose a primary sound that will be accompanied by a random background noise every 10 to 15 seconds. Over 34 sound combinations are possible.
With the Dexbaby Sound Sleeper's continuous play option, you can play those familiar, soothing sounds throughout the night. In case your baby has passed the point of midnight wake-ups, a timer option is also available. Set the timer and the selected sound will play for 60 minutes, then the machine automatically shuts off.
This baby sound machine is missing a few of the best features that its competitors boast, such as an MP3 player adapter, a nightlight and a resume function. However, this white noise sound machine does include a headphone jack that you can use to hook the machine up to speakers. The included lifetime warranty is unheard of compared to the other baby sound machines we reviewed. If you buy this device with your first baby, you can use it with any subsequent children you have.
Some online descriptions of the Dexbaby Sound Sleeper are misleading when they indicate this device uses batteries. According to the instruction manual, the included batteries are only to be used for demonstration purposes in stores and for shipping. If used in demo mode with the batteries, the unit turns off after 10 seconds of use. If you want to play the baby sound machine through the night, you'll need to plug it into a 120-volt wall outlet using the included AC adapter. Please be aware the instruction manual also notes that this white noise machine should not be plugged in to a 220-volt outlet.
The Dexbaby Sound Sleeper is somewhat lacking in extra features, such as an MP3 adapter, a nightlight and a resume function. However, for what this baby sound machine lacks in features, it makes up for in ease of use, lifetime warranty and sound selection. We especially like the ability to layer sounds to create a more natural sound combination.
