Haier Serenity ESAQ406T: What you need to know

The Haier Serenity ESAQ406T is the best window air conditioner to go for if you want something that runs very quietly. That makes this ideal as a bedroom option that will be on overnight while you sleep.

The unit is able to kick out plenty of power despite keeping things quiet as you get 6,000 BTU, meaning this is good for rooms up to 250 square feet.

The Haier Serenity ESAQ406T is an Energy Star rated air conditioner so you will be getting efficient power usage. That could mean you save money in the long run, over another air conditioner, since this could cost you less in electricity.

You also get a remote control so you can change settings from the comfort of your chair or bed but with the timer setting you may not need to. This even has a dehumidify mode which is a nice extra you don't get on all air conditioners.

Haier Serenity ESAQ406T: Design and build

  • Dual motor
  • Cross-flow fan
  • Remote control

The Haier Serenity ESAQ406T uses a dual motor system to power the fans that pump the cold air into your home. This means two smaller motors rather than one big unit for better energy efficiency while still offering good airflow.

The remote control allows you to change settings like temperature, fan power and mode to name just a few. This remote has a display so you can see what's happening even when at a distance from the air conditioner itself.

The air conditioning unit isn't the prettiest with a huge front grill and angled top grills that fire the air upward into the room. These are separated by a black section which has button controls for the device. While the edging to the top is smoothed off and rounded it all feels a bit like a lot of white plastic – not very modern then.

The three-speed fan powers airflow into a 4-way air directional system so you can aim it where you want it and at the power you need.

Haier Serenity ESAQ406T: Features

  • 6,000 BTU
  • Dehumidify mode
  • Energy saver mode

The Haier Serenity ESAQ406T packs in 6,000 BTU of power which is plenty for most large rooms up to about 250 square feet in size. The three fan speeds can be set manually or you can go into auto mode and let the unit determine the speed needed to get the room to the temperature you select.

A nice touch is the dehumidifier mode which will help absorb water out of the air. For muggier times when you get that wet heat this should help to reduce the heaviness in the air making it feel light and fresh. There is a filter which works to make the air literally more fresh and this can be removed for cleaning – there's an alert for when you need to do this.

A 24-hour timer lets you set the on and off timings which is great for getting it to come up just before you're home from work, so the room will be the right temperature on arrival. You can also use a sleep mode which will auto adjust the temperature for overnight comfort.

An easy install kit is also included with this unit that should make it something that anyone can install without having to pay a professional to do the job, saving you money.

Haier Serenity ESAQ406T: Performance

  • 43dB quiet
  • LIghts off option
  • Great temperature maintenance

The Haier Serenity ESAQ406T is certainly quiet. In fact, with the fan on the lowest setting you can actually hear the condenser humming. What other fan is that quiet you can hear the condenser? That means it sounds a bit like a fridge humming away gently. So at night you can sleep in peace.

Another nice touch for peace at night is the ability to go into dark mode both on the unit itself and on the remote. That means the lights are turned off so you aren't kept awake with light or sound.

While sleeping, this unit cleverly cycles the air through it every now and then to check the temperature of the room air is correct. Some other units can be fooled as the outside air cools the air conditioner and they turn off. This one is smarter and will maintain a steady in room temperature regardless of the external changes.

It's tough to judge how much this will cost in the longer term but since it's efficient and has that Energy Star rating you can expect to pay as little as $45 per year to run this unit.

There are complaints online of units getting noisier over time – some right after the one year warranty ran out. So this could be worth keeping in mind if you're debating getting cover for the unit.

Should I buy the Haier Serenity ESAQ406T?

If you want the most quiet window air conditioner out there, which also keeps your room at a steady temperature, then the Haier Serenity ESAQ406T is the one for the job. If you also want to save money by using an efficient unit then this will help you there too.

If you want something good looking or Wi-Fi controlled then you may have to look elsewhere and pay a little more for those features.

Haier Serenity ESAQ406T: Verdict

The Haier Serenity ESAQ406T is a super quiet air conditioner that doesn't scrimp on power with the ability to cool even larger rooms up to 250 square feet. It does this with intelligent auto settings, has a useful remote and even dims its lights making it ideal for the bedroom.

The dehumidifier makes this great for wetter areas where that muggy heat can get too much. The timer settings help you keep your home at the right temperature when you need it so you can save money in between times. Worth the higher price for this level of BTU to get that extra quiet.
