Setting new health goals is always fun when they feel empowering to you. If your goal relies upon body weight, fat or body mass index (BMI) measurements, you can monitor all three with the Weight Gurus Bluetooth Body Fat Smart Scale. Made by GreaterGoods, it’s one of the best bathroom scales in terms of sheer value for money versus features.

This smart bathroom scale is surprisingly affordable for what it does, and is a decent choice for people who want an app-connected bathroom scale that gives them accurate data about their weight loss or weight gain, and BMI. For reasons which we’ll cover below, we wouldn’t recommend it for accurate body fat readings.

Used in tandem with one of the best fitness trackers, the Weight Gurus Bluetooth Body Fat Smart Scale could help you gain valuable insight into what’s going on with your weight, and what exercise, diet and lifestyle choices affect it. In addition, investing in some home gym, equipment, such as the best treadmills or best exercise bikes, will also help you achieve your health and fitness goals.

Weight Gurus Bluetooth Body Fat Smart Scale review: Design

Most smart scales look similar, and this one doesn’t break the mould. That said, we like its sleek and low profile design, with a wipe-clean finish that looks glossy when buffed with a microfiber cloth after use (hey, these things attract dust like crazy).

The Weight Gurus Bluetooth Body Fat Smart Scale weighs just 4.5lbs and is super-slim at 0.9 inches wide. So you could easily slide it beneath a bathroom cabinet or prop it up against the wall when not in use. There’s a large, easy to read display on the front of the bathroom scales… And that’s it.

The real magic, you see, lies in what’s underneath the hood of the Weight Gurus Bluetooth Body Fat Smart Scale, and the Weight Gurus smartphone app (iOS, Android).

The scale is designed to measure and keep track of multiple health metrics for you and up to seven other people. So if you’re taking part in a health and fitness goal with family members or friends, you can each use this scale to capture readings on your nominated weigh-in day. The multi-user tracking also makes it a good choice for big families or house shares.

Weight Gurus Bluetooth Body Fat Smart Scale review: Features

As mentioned, the Weight Guru’s Bluetooth Smart Body Fat Scale offers weight, BMI, body fat, muscle mass and water mass tracking for up to eight users, and up to a maximum user weight of 400lbs.

The scale captures then shares all of that data to the companion app, so you can view it on your phone whenever you want. The data, automatically uploaded to the app each time you step on the scale, is displayed in the form of easy-read graphs so you can track your progress over time.

The Weight Gurus app doesn’t track your daily calorie intake or let you input your meals for tracking, though. If you'd prefer a scale that can keep tabs on your caloric intake too, take a look at our Fitbit Aria Wi-Fi Smart Scale review.

Weight Gurus Bluetooth Body Fat Smart Scale review: Performance

The Weight Gurus scale uses Bluetooth technology to ping the data it gathers straight to your phone. To get started with using the scale, remove the pull tab from the battery compartment on the back of the scale, then set the scale down on a hard, flat surface, such as your bathroom floor.

Once you’ve downloaded the Weight Guru app, ensure your phone’s Bluetooth is turned on. Create an account (name and email address) and fill out the information it asks for to help it calculate your starting body composition. In the app, open the menu, choose ‘Scale Setup’, then ‘Add a new scale’ and follow the steps for fast Bluetooth pairing.

We had no trouble setting this scale up. In fact, with the exception of the Fitbit Aria Wi-Fi, it connected quicker than any other smart bathroom scale we’ve tested.

During our review, we found that the Weight Guru Bluetooth Smart Body Fat Scale scale was far more accurate at measuring body weight compared to the other metrics it’s designed to capture. The body fat percentage in particular was a bit hit and miss for us, so if that’s the main metric you want to track, try the iHealth Core Wireless Body Composition Scale instead.

Also, to measure your BMI, you need to stand on the Weight Gurus scale for a little longer. Your body weight reading flashes up first, then shortly after you’ll see your additional readings (water mass, muscle mass and so on). If you step off the scale too soon, you’ll only get the body weight reading.

Weight Gurus Bluetooth Body Fat Smart Scale review: User reviews

This smart bathroom scale has over 6,900 reviews on Amazon alone, and scores an average of 4.5 out of 5. That’s very high for a bathroom scale, with many users commenting on its ease of use, reliability and accuracy.

The large, backlit display was also hugely appreciated among customers, and how well it syncs with Apple Health and Android wellness apps.

The biggest complaints were about the hit-and-miss body fat measurements, which we agree with. Another customer was disappointed to discover that the Weight Gurus bathroom scale can’t be used without syncing with the app first.

Should I buy the Weight Gurus Bluetooth Body Fat Smart Scale?

The Weight Gurus Bluetooth Body Fat Smart Scale is backed by a five-year warranty, though some customers have had issues in seeking replacement scales. We also aren’t hugely impressed with the accuracy of its body fat measurements, though it was very consistent and accurate with body weight.

It’s also simple to set up and use. We’d recommend it for larger families who want a budget smart bathroom scale for basic body weight monitoring for up to eight people. For those who need super-accurate body composition tracking, look elsewhere.
