PROS / It has long-lasting battery life of over 9 hours.
CONS / Front-facing camera resolution is only 1 MP.
VERDICT / The Amazon Fire HD 10 is lightweight and long-lasting, but it scored low in some benchmark tests, indicating below-average performance when running numerous applications.
The Amazon Fire HD 10 represents the largest tablet screen Amazon has to offer, with a display measuring a full 10 inches. Despite its considerable screen real estate, the Fire HD 10 is also slender and lightweight. It is powered by a 1.5-GHz Quad-Core ARM Cortex A15/A7 processor and runs on the proprietary Fire OS platform.
Benchmark testing yielded somewhat uneven results for the Amazon Fire HD 10. Using the Geekbench 3 benchmark platform, the tablet scored 1514, a number that is less than half of the Top Ten Reviews average score of 3165. When tested using 3DMark Ice Storm Unlimited, the tablet achieved a score of 13041 – still below the Top Ten Reviews average of 19601, but a bit closer to the median performance mark. These scores indicate that the Amazon Fire HD 10 processor may be less capable than others in the area of multitasking and running numerous apps simultaneously.
As we noted before, the Amazon Fire HD 10 is the largest-screened tablet Amazon offers. A body depth of 0.30 inches also makes it Amazon’s thinnest tablet, and its weight of 0.95 pounds makes it one of its most lightweight. In comparison with the weight and dimensions of other tablets we reviewed, the Fire HD 10 enjoys a high level of one-handed portability.
Internal storage is available in two options: 16GB or 32GB. That can be increased up to 128GB with the addition of a microSD card, so you can store movies, music and other media files. In addition, the Amazon Fire HD 10 receives free unlimited cloud storage for all content purchased through Amazon as well as all photos taken with the tablet.
The tablet comes equipped with front- and rear-facing cameras for taking photos and recording video. The Fire HD 10’s rear-facing camera is 5MP and can shoot video in 1080p quality. The front-facing camera offers a significantly lower resolution of 1MP for snapshots and 720p for video, rendering it more suitable for online video chats.
Tested battery life reached just over 9 hours of continuous use on a full charge, which is on par with the Top Ten Reviews average expectancy. Screen resolution is 1280 x 800. A display brightness rating of 370 nits is well above the Top Ten Reviews average of 354.
The Amazon Fire HD 10 comes with a one-year warranty and fully comprehensive support that includes phone, live chat, social media, and online help tutorials. Amazon also provides full manufacturer support. Online connectivity is facilitated by Wi-Fi, and there is no 4G option available.
The Amazon Fire HD 10 strikes a good balance between large display size and lightweight design, and its expandable internal storage is buffered by Amazon’s free cloud storage. However, below-average benchmark results indicate it may not perform flawlessly while playing media and running other apps.
