The downside of a plan of this type is that if you want many of the added features, you're going to end up paying more than if you went with a program that offers all of the features in the first place.

We only gave Netscape a one in this category because the basic service comes with very few features and doesn't include any protective features like a firewall and virus, spam and spyware protection. These features are almost mandatory when surfing the web and not having these in place puts your computer and personal information at risk.

Many of these features can be purchased for additional monthly fees. If you use Netscape as your ISP we would highly recommend purchasing protective features. For more information regarding security software products follow these links: Anti-Spyware, Anti-Virus, Internet Filtering, Monitoring, Personal Firewall, Privacy, or Spam Filtering.

Netscape provides service to all 50 states though it might not be available in your area. Please check Netscape's website to see if service is available in your home.

Netscape's basic plan is a 56-K dial-up connection — however there is an accelerator that can be added to increase the connection speed for an additional monthly cost. The accelerator will increase the speed of the dial-up but will still be significantly slower than DSL and cable.

Netscape offers phone support (there may be a $ 10.00 fee imposed at the end of your call), live chat and a FAQs page. Netscape has a members section to provide assistance to its members.

Netscape provides a basic no frills internet service at an affordable price. You can customize your plan with security features and other options at additional monthly costs. Depending on what you add to your plan and what you expect in an ISP, Netscape may or may not be a good value.
