PROS / The boot-up speed was improved by 15 percent in our tests.
CONS / The diagnostic consistency rate was among the lowest in our review.
VERDICT / Avanquest's Fix-It Utilities Pro 15 improved our boot-up speed by 15 percent, which was above average, but it failed to impress us in other areas of performance.
Developed by Avanquest, Fix-It Utilities Pro is a suite of system repair software designed with the purpose of improving and maintaining your computer's health. Fix-It features a host of tools to clear out junk files, optimize browser speed, disable unnecessary apps and protect your computer from external threats. While improved our computer in our tests, the boosts weren't impressive, and the diagnostic consistency was very low. However, it did improve boot-up speed significantly.
To find the best system repair software, we wanted to see how much each app improved our slow-performing test computer. To do this, we started by using PCMark 8 to benchmark the performance of our computer's word and data processing, graphics processing, web browsing and video chat quality. Then we used every available system optimization tool offered by Fix-It Utilities Pro, which was followed by another benchmarking test. This allowed us to see if optimization actually resulted in improvements to performance. We also gauged improvements to boot-up speed and diagnostic consistency. We performed multiple rounds of testing so that all the results were part of an average and not based on singular test.
After all our tests, Fix-It Utilities Pro improved our test computer by 7.5 percent, on average. This result was slightly below average and well below the 12.5 percent improvement posted by the best system repair software in our review. The app produced one of the biggest improvements to word and data processing with a 7.05 percent improvement, but the graphics processing performance dipped 2.1 percent.
Still, despite the below-average improvement, it's worth noting that none of the products we tested made our computer seem faster. The difference between the 12.5 improvement and the 7.5 percent improvement is only noticeable with benchmarking software. An improvement of 20 percent or greater is need for the performance to be noticeable. Simply put, you shouldn't expect major improvement from PC system repair software.
Fix-It Utilities Pro improved our test computer's boot-up speed by 15 percent. While this wasn't the best improvement in our tests, a 15-percent improvement is significant and noticeable. For example, if it takes one minute for your PC to boot up, then a 15-second improvement is 9 seconds faster.
In our diagnostic consistency tests, Fix-It Utilities Pro had a rate of 51.5 percent, which was the second-lowest rate in our review. This rate was determined by scanning our test computer, fixing the issues, and then scanning it again. Ideally, the second scan shouldn't result in additional issues, but with this system repair app, it consistently returned with more issues on additional scans. This doesn't necessarily reflect performance, but it should make you consider the effectiveness of the app's diagnostic abilities.
Fix-It Utilities Pro has a wide selection of PC maintenance and optimization tools. This is one of its upsides. You can back up and restore your system, recover accidentally deleted files, repair shortcuts and registries, optimize security and privacy, and permanently delete files. However, it lacks a solid-state drive optimizer and a file-encryption tool, though these are rare tools found in only a few system repair suites.
Fix-It Utilities Pro 15 is PC repair software that was developed with the purpose of fixing errors and improving your computer's performance. In our tests, the app only improved our test computer's performance by 7.5 percent, which was minimal. In addition, the diagnostic consistency was very low. The app continually finds errors even after you fix the errors. On the plus side, it has a lot of advanced tools and the improvement to our boot-up speed was significant at 15 percent.
