Editor’s Note: Top Ten Reviews uses test results from the independent laboratory AV-Test as part of our review process for the best anti-malware software. AV-Test looks specifically at protection, performance and usability on multiple versions of Windows operating systems, and it performs these evaluations several times throughout the year. We use the most current AV-Test scores available at the time of our review. It is possible that new AV-Test scores will be released after our review goes live on the site. We will consider these scores during our next review of the best anti-malware software.
Panda Antivirus Pro makes a well-deserved appearance in our review of the best malware removal software. It provides excellent malware removal and protection. Panda was the first internet security company to provide cloud-based malware protection. If Panda's Collective Intelligence technology can classify over 50,000 new malware samples per day, it can manage security for your computer as well. However, you have to sacrifice some of your computer's speed for this protection.
AV-Test, an independent IT-security institute in Germany, tested Panda along with all the other products on our lineup. Panda rated well with a score of 6 out of 6 in malware identification. The software detected 100 percent of known malware, newly released malware and zero-day released (or currently unidentified) malware. Overall, Panda performs excellently and has proved able to protect your computer from known and zero-day threats.
However, in the performance tests, Panda scored well below the average of the anti-malware products we reviewed. It uses a significant amount of your system resources and causes lag in other applications running on your computer. You'll also experience lag issues with video games and streaming services. Panda scored 67 percent in the performance tests. The average score among the malware removal software we reviewed is 83 percent.
This anti-malware software includes a useful collection of common security tools as well as innovative additional features. Using this software, you can perform instant scans, scheduled scans, custom scans and scans of external devices. You can also inoculate USB drives with the USB Vaccine tool so that they don't transfer threats to your computer. For bypassing keyloggers, you can employ Panda's virtual keyboard for entering usernames and passwords securely. For uninterrupted movie watching and game playing, it has a gamer mode that minimizes interference by allowing only critical updates and scans to run.
One chink in Panda's armor is its lack of technical support options. Panda only provides direct technical support to home users via email or paid telephone support through Microsoft Certified Technicians. It offers instant chat assistance, but you have to pay for that too. Other avenues of support are its active user forum, instructional videos, user guides and articles. You can explore general company and product information on Google Plus, Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.
Panda Antivirus Pro excels at keeping your computer safe from more than 50,000 malware threats. You can use this malware removal software to schedule scans, create custom scans and check USB devices for threats as soon as they're connected to your computer. However, the lag this program causes in your system and its less-than-stellar help options land it in the bottom tier of our review.
