Virus detection and removal is an average score that considers test results from independent laboratories, AV-Test and AV-Comparatives, along with our own in-house evaluations. Top Ten Reviews uses live malware downloads and malicious sites to determine how well an antivirus program recognizes, tags and blocks a threat from attacking a computer.
After each threat is deployed, we record if the antivirus program correctly identified the threat and at which point it was stopped (i.e. was the download interrupted, prevented from starting, or was the threat allowed to be opened or saved before the software isolated the threat).
Programs that stop the malware from downloading are given a higher score than those that wait until download is complete. The antivirus software that detects malware and viruses and removes them the best is shown in the comparison below.
