The EVISTR Mini Digital Voice Recorder is an affordable and simple to use option for anyone that wants a quick and easy digital recording device. It's also compact, making it ideal for use on the go. So if you're looking for the best digital voice recorder that won't break the bank, the EVISTR Mini Digital Voice Recorder is a great choice.

Of course, at such a low price, it also limited in some areas. More on that below in the full EVISTR Mini Digital Voice Recorder review.

EVISTR Mini Digital Voice Recorder: Overview

EVISTR Mini Digital Voice Recorder specs

Storage: 16GB onboard only
Power: Rechargeable via USB
Transfer: USB 2.0
Microphone: 360-degree omnidirectional

The EVISTR Mini Digital Voice Recorder is a 16GB unit, although there is also an 8GB variant. But for the few dollars difference in price the larger capacity model is recommended.

This is a very compact unit that fits in a pocket but crams in MP3 and WAV recording options with varying levels of quality. So you can record as much or as little as needed depending on the quality you want.

It lacks a memory card slot so requires a home computer or laptop connection but with USB 2.0 it's speedy and works with both Mac and PC.

EVISTR Mini Digital Voice Recorder: Design

The compact and slender EVISTR Mini Digital Voice Recorder is ideal for use on the go, slipping into a bag, or even pocket, easily.

The device has a metallic casing making it strong and impressively well made for the very low price. There's a single main 360-degree omnidirectional microphone at the head of the device with four buttons on the front below the monochrome backlit screen.

To the side are volume buttons for playback and a headphone port for listening privately. Another port is for the included USB cable to attach to a computer which doubles as the device's charger for the built-in battery.

There is also a sliding power button to the side, designed to make sure it isn't accidentally turned on.

EVISTR Mini Digital Voice Recorder: Features

The main appeal of this recorder, aside from the low price, is how easy the EVISTR Mini is to use. Buttons are kept to a minimum and are physically easy to access so you know you're recording even if this is left in a bag or pocket.

The other big feature is the audio recording function. This is able to detect noise and start recording. So, if you're in a lecture hall, for example, this will get recording only when the lecturer begins to talk, so you don't have to focus on starting record when you're busy.

The ability to change audio quality is also a useful feature. Since you're limited on space this allows you to extend your recording time if needed. Go from 128 kbps to 64 kbps in MP3 mode, or change to WAV 1536 kbps. More on that below.

EVISTR Mini Digital Voice Recorder: Performance

Audio recording quality is greatly varied in this little device. You can go for all out quality with the 1536 kbps WAV and you'll get 24 hours of audio recording from that 16GB capacity.

Or, if you want to save space, lower down to the 64 kbps MP3 and you'll get a whopping 560 hours, aka 23 days, worth of audio recording.

The Voice Activated Recorder (VAR) mode is really useful. This only records when it hears speaking. So you can save space on your device, and time, by cutting out any silences as this will stop recording during those times. This means less scanning through your file afterwards, which is a great feature for time saving.

File transfer is easy with the included USB cable and USB 2.0 connectivity. This means great speed and works on both PC and Mac, although you may need to install software on Mac to get playback of all file types.

Battery performance is excellent with a good 12 hours of use on a single charge. Since the EVISTR Mini Digital Voice Recorder charges via USB, even when transferring files you're getting back to full power ready for the next recording.

Should I buy the EVISTR Mini Digital Voice Recorder?

If you want a solid, small and simple to use voice recorder that gives you 12 hours of battery and up to 23 days of audio recording, this is for you. The addition of the auto recording is a really top feature at this price, as is that solid metallic build quality.

Some might want a better quality microphone system, expanded storage or wireless connectivity. But at this price point, for the basics, this does the job very well.
