The WORX WG261 is a lightweight cordless model, making it one of the best hedge trimmers for those looking for a midrange model, but it's easy to use and solidly built. It has a relatively small battery, so it is only suited for small gardens and light yardwork tasks.

Although the WORX WG261 does not have a shoulder harness, this is not too problematic, because the machine weighs only 5.5 pounds. This lightweight model has even weight distribution for control, comfort and precision. The low weight allows you to comfortably use this cordless hedge trimmer vertically or horizontally, as well as above shoulder height, for extended periods with minimal muscle fatigue.

WORX WG261 hedge trimmer: What you need to know

This hedge trimmer delivers 2,200 cutting strokes per minute, which is well suited for small gardens, and like the Ryobi RY40610A it has a removable 20-volt lithium-ion battery pack that takes three hours to reach full charge. Because the battery is removable, you can purchase a second battery pack and charge one of them while you are using the trimmer with the spare battery pack. The battery has a substantial run time, but the small power output means this cordless hedge trimmer can only handle light tasks, such as general maintenance and light shaping. With its maximum cutting capacity of 0.5625 inches, it struggles with tough, dense or woody stems. For more power, try the Husqvarna 122HD60

The dual-action blades produce little vibration unless cutting through tough vegetation. At 22 inches, the blades are relatively short. This decreases the weight of the trimmer and gives you added control, allowing for precision strokes. However, it increases the length of time required to complete the task. The blades have a hardened steel construction for durability and retain their sharp edges. This model comes with a corrosion-resistant sheath that protects the blade for transport.

The front auxiliary handle is a loop style with a soft, comfortable grip. However, it is particularly narrow, making it awkward to grip at different angles. To negate some of this awkwardness, you can adjust the handle by tilting it forward or backward to find a more comfortable position. The transparent hand and debris guard allows you to cut with a high degree of precision while still protecting you from cuttings and the blades.

Should you buy the WORX WG261 hedge trimmer?

Lightweight and easy to use, the WORX WG261 is a midrange cordless hedge trimmer with few frills. It is best for light hedge trimming and shaping; because of the short blades and low-power battery, this hedge trimmer does not have the capacity for average- and heavy-duty tasks.
