Verdict / The Dell Color Cloud Multifunction Printer H625cdw has a multifunction design and produces quick, high-quality prints, but it really stands out thanks to its robust mobile support.

The Dell Color Cloud Multifunction Printer H625cdw is a laser printer that produces good-quality documents at quick speeds. Further, it stands out in our review by having the most robust mobile printing options of the models we tested.

Weighing a hefty 69.9 pounds, this Dell is the heaviest model in our laser printer reviews, and it’s one of the largest, measuring 16.9 x 19.8 x 19.7 inches. That’s big enough that it can’t share a desk and heavy enough that you probably don’t want to move the printer after you get it set up. The control panel includes a 4.3-inch color touchscreen, which makes navigating the printer’s settings and menus fairly easy.

We found 12 errors in the 10-page, text-heavy test document we printed through the H625cdw, but they were just pinprick-size flecks of unwanted inking, only noticeable under high magnification. Large blocks of color had minor banding, and one of the charts in our Excel print test had jagged, pixelated lines that should have been smooth. Aside from these minor issues, the machine’s print quality is, on the whole, quite good. Its print speed is also respectable, producing black-and-white documents at 18 pages per minute and color documents at 17 pages per minute.

When you buy standard-size toner cartridges, the printing cost breaks down to 24 cents per page. While that’s on the expensive end for color printers, Dell does offer high-capacity toner cartridges. These have a much lower per-page cost of 15 cents, one of the more reasonable prices for four-color printing.

This Dell’s paper capacity is standard for a dual-tray laser printer, with a 250-page primary input tray and a secondary paper tray that holds 50 pages. An automatic document feeder lets you scan and copy in bulk, handling up to 50 pages at a time, and automatic duplexing means you don’t have to manually flip pages when printing two-sided documents.

The machine’s duty cycle of 38,000 pages per month means you can chew through more than 1,000 pages a day without the printer breaking down. Still, Dell recommends sticking to between 500 and 2,500 pages per month for optimal performance.

The printer includes both Ethernet and Wi-Fi networking, a host USB ports for printing from and scanning to external storage, web-connected features that let you scan documents directly to online storage, and broad support for mobile printing, with NFC pairing as an added bonus.

Using the accompanying Dell Document Hub app, you can use your smartphone or tablet to scan to and print from cloud storage, convert scanned documents into searchable text with optical character recognition (OCR), and view the printer’s status and scan settings right from your Apple or Android device.

While Dell’s one-year warranty on the Color Cloud H625cdw is the same length as those other manufacturers offer, the accompanying support options are some of the best available. You can reach support personnel via phone and email as well as by using live chat on Dell’s website or through popular social media channels like Facebook and Twitter. You can also browse the user manual, walk through troubleshooting and browse answers to frequently asked questions on the website.
